Useless Thread

Depends what you need from a vehicle Darryl, I bought a Ford Edge last spring and love it, smooth and comfortable ride, good sound system, the ford mytouch is epic and it handles well in the snow/rain/ice. I looked at the new ford escapes after I got my edge and its basically the same I though, except the escape has an extra row of seating.

Any owners  Hyundai Tuscon, Toyota RAVA4, Honda CRV and Ford Escapes want to share their thoughts on their vehicles? I am slowly starting my search for my next vehicle.

My parents bought a CRV which I use from time to time for snowboarding.  I've also driven RAV4's on a few occasions.  Between the two, I'd pick the RAV4 hands down, particularly if you go with the leather interior.  I think it looks better, feels cozier inside.  But I think the CRV might be a tad roomier.  I'm not a big fan of Honda engines.  Quite thrashy.  My neighbor, who works for Toyota, advises to get the Japan made RAV4 rather than the North American one if you plan on getting one used...something about it being faster and slightly more powerful.  You can identify the Japanese made version by the absence of the spare tire rack on the back (or was it the other way around?).

I found out this morning that I have an interview coming up soon, no time/date set yet as they are trying to accomodate everyone and asked us to pick 3 time slots that work. The job is a system operator trainee job and is based in Winnipeg, which would mean no more commuting (860km drive every week, 8 days on, 6 off, drive up one week, work, then drive home the next week, repeat), this is a job I have been chasing for a few years and finally have enough senority for an interview.

Just thought I'd chime in here...the only Rav4 built in Japan and sold in Canada over the past few years was a special model that deleted the spare tire and had run-flat tires instead.  We sold about 5 over the past 2 years.  We sell about 20 Rav4s a month.  With the new model just released on Thursday, you can no longer get that model, as all Rav4's have a spare tucked underneath the vehicle.  100% of Rav4s now sold in Canada are built in Canada, but truly approximately 99% of the late model Rav4's on the road here were built in Woodstock, ON.

The Japanese built Rav4s were otherwise identical.  Some oldtimers suggested there was a quality difference, but the data shows otherwise.  No discernible difference other the special runflat package.

They are good...and the new model is very very good.  I'd suggest it's the top of its class.

Thank you fro all the feedback people. I am definitely leaning toward the RAV4. Mainly because I have had a good run with my current Toyota product (Corolla) and I've read/heard many good things

In body, but not in spirit.  Although I guess longevity and vitality have to be serius considerations when you hire an 80 year old.

Nik, you didn't get the Leafs GM post, will you be applying for this?

Yes, you're right.  I recall now... the North American built one discontinued the V6 model... I think too much power on turns causing roll overs.  However the Jpanese version still continued offering a V6. Saftey be damned...go for the V6!

Good luck!

Thanks! Got my technical information package and time for the interview, Friday at 830am! 116 terms to go over and a 74 page document :| Time to call up a few friends that work in that department and see if they have any pointers for me on what to expect in the interview! I am kind of glad its happening this Friday, rather than in a few weeks, get it over with sooner and I won't have to stress out about going for it anymore lol

There's an Adam Sandler movie in here somewhere.

V6's are available in the Rav4, both current and previous generation. I doubt very highly that the V6 has anything to do with rollovers. The V6 in the Rav4, while an extremely well-regarded engine, is not a considerably powerful engine.

My cousin died last night 43 years old, leaving 3 kids behind :-\ I'm not all that surprised although I didn't expect it to happen now. He was a really nice guy, but had a history of drug and alcohol abuse, but he had a really rough childhood. His mom died in cancer when he was 12 or so, and his dad took off when she got sick :-\
