I turned 40 this year. I'm now growing out a full beard and getting my first tattoo next week.

Am I experiencing a mid-life crisis?

Well, if the news is to be believed then global warming might kill us all well before another 40 years so...you know, "mid" might be optimistic.

Word of advice from someone who's been fully bearded for a while now, a little beard balm every now and then, maybe a beard oil occasionally. Avoid the strong smells if they're not your thing but take care of your beard and your beard will take care of you.

Fair point. I'm still shooting for 80, so we'll see.

I'll look into this beard balm stuff. I'm at the stage where the neck part is long enough that it's curling outward, so I need to do something. I'm not a "groomer" so I'll have to learn what to do.

Just in case people think I'm incapable of saying something nice about conservatives, I'm really sorry to see what happened with Tony Clement. While I very much disagreed with his politics he was my boss for a while at the MOH and while I didn't interact with him a ton when I did he always struck me as one of the very few genuinely nice and decent political guys I came across during my brief time in the civil service.

Hey Bullfrog, people experiencing mid-life crisis at different points in time. Might be, might not. You could just be looking for a change.

Also, it seems after your first tattoo, you will want more. LOL

Hubby got his first tattoo last November at 48 yrs old. He's always wanted one but he now has one full sleeve and one half sleeve. And he bought a bike this past spring. He's definitely going through a mid-life crisis but hey it could be worse.

He is currently my MP and apparently will continue to be so in Parry Sound Muskoka. He has done a lot for our community, so many beautiful gazebos. In all seriousness, he did nothing illegal and should not be grouped with those accused/charged with sexual harassment. Obviously, he made a bad decision and he should resign. =

Not sure whether I'd have been happier with HOC just bowing out without closure, or having closure but based on disjointed and badly written episodes.

Actually I guess this should be have been in tv thread.

Well, as per usual, I seem to be a phenomenal judge of character.

Good job Calgary. There seemed to be a lot more voices in the media pushing for a yes than a no so I actually thought they might go through with it.

I still love the Olympic games but politics and costs are such a massive gamble. I cherish my memories of the Vancouver Olympics and they seemed to have worked financially and patriotically. I am content with that being the most recent Olympics on Canadian soil for a long long time. I have zero interest in a summer Olympics anywhere in Canada ever. Canada should only consider Winter games.

I don't get this take at all. The two holidays are effectively exactly the same. Is it that one's on a Thursday? That you get to watch crappy football? That it's later in the year?

Admittedly not everyone is in my boat but the next few weeks are Hannukah and Christmas and New Years and I should want to add Thanksgiving to that? I've never understood why Americans have two big holidays you're supposed to spend with family and they're within a month of each other.

I actually like the fact that our Thanksgiving is in October mainly due to what you said - there's enough time between that and Christmas/whatever to make you actually want to see your family again ;)

I guess it's probably something related to Football? And I've never really got the Football culture so....

Happy White-Washing Genocide with an air of Gratitude Day, celebrating that actual time immigrants came to a land and pillaged its people and culture for their own selfish gain?

I get the point people are making by referring to the first Europeans coming here as Immigrants but it's something along the line as referring to the Aliens in Independence Day as Immigrants.

That is hilariously far more apt.
