What if the NHL has to cancel the rest of the season?

They can?t even cross the border can they?  Will have to play playoffs in Canada or USA

Except, some of the players are in Canada, and some are in the U.S. right now (and, some might have made it home to Europe before the travel bans). Teams are split up, opponents are on different sides of the borders . . . it's really just a logistical nightmare right now. Unless things change in the geopolitical sphere relatively quickly, there's no chance of the rest of this season happening.

I don't doubt for a second they could figure out something with the Canada-U.S. border to make this happen. It's still open for "essential" workers, isn't it? Working out the logistics with players in Europe could be trickier though.

Maybe, though, I'm not sure the NHL has enough pull in the US to make that happen on their own. If all the major sports leagues banded together, I'm sure something would get done.

They'll do anything to get the sports leagues back up. Even if it was just the NHL at first they'd comply with whatever they needed because it might signal to the other leagues that they should do it too.

When nonsense like this takes place in the US, I really don't think the border from their side will be the problem:

The logistics of this are going to be a nightmare if they do try and run a league with some form of normal scheduling.  Far more so than playing in a selection group of locations.

MLB is also partnering to get antibody testing as part of a larger testing trial.  They are going to be testing families, players, trainers, pretty much everyone involved in the game.  It's pretty clear they partnered up to use it as ammunition to be able to get MLB up and running.

I wonder if the AHL cancellation is any indication of how things might play out...

Nah. Two completely different situations. The AHL's revenue mostly comes from having fans in the stands. The NHL can still make a lot of money just from TV.

I saw also that there was an agreement that eligible AHL players could be re-assigned to the NHL. I wonder if they'll allow for expanded rosters for getting the NHL back playing.

The football(soccer) authorities seem to be leaning towards allowing 5 substitutes instead of 3 for the remainder of any leagues that get playing in Europe and also allowing the squad size to be expanded from 25 to allow for the fact they could be playing several games in a short period with no real "pre-season" and then a minimal gap before a new season starts

?I think we shouldn?t play when the whole world is canceling seasons,? Gudas said. ?Hockey would be the only team sport trying to power through it like this. They won?t let us go to the Olympics so we won?t get injured, but they want to keep the NHL season running in these times. If we kept playing, our sport would be swimming against the current a bit.

?Money is money, it?s what currently makes the world go round,? Gudas added. ?It?s a bit sad that they are willing to risk the health of so many players for money.?

If there's anything we know about Gudas, it's his relentless concern for the health of fellow NHLers.

Aren't the NBA, MLB, and the top tier european soccer leagues trying to "power through it" too.

Isn't every business in the world trying to power through it?
