I keep rooting for Kadri because I think he has the ability to be a #1 down the road (one of those #1's who isn't truly elite but tolerable) but he just doesn't have it right now.  I really would consider putting Holland on the top line and trying Kadri with Lupul again.

I've always thought Kadri's ceiling was a Riberio-type player. 60-ish point centre with potential for 70 once or twice. Ideally a 2nd-line guy but still capable of being on the top line.

Holland's ceiling isn't really a legit 1st line guy either, but as of right now he's the teams best option. I'd put him back with Kessel and JVR too, Kadri with Lupul and Raymond, and Bozak with Kulemin and I guess Clarkson when Bozak returns. Obviously we know that's not happening though.

Holland to me seems like the smarter C - he appears very smart in his own end.

OK, Datsyuk is pretty amazing on both sides of the puck.  Not that I want to lose to the Wings, but it will be enjoyable seeing him more often.

That's the Gustavsson we knew and loved.

Brings back memories ... some incredible saves but still seems to give up too many.  Though to be fair that was a very good shot by Lupul.

Lupul just scored on CBC's online feed. At least i'm not watching commercials; hopefully can catch up before the 3rd period starts.

In no way I am remotely trying to compare/equate him, but Holland is much more Sundin-like as a centerman too.  By that I mean he is big enough to win puck battles in the offensive zone and create scoring chances for himself/teammates down low.  I think that is a little more pleasing on the eyes to be honest.

I think the Ribiero comparison is a pretty good one for Kadri.  A 2nd/3rd line on a Cup calibre team, but a 1st liner on a playoff fodder team.  The one think I like about Kadri is that he puts himself in good situations.  He started the season off slow, but he's back up near the top of the league for penalties drawn at 2.2/60 minutes of ice-time (not including tonight).  That has his 5th in the league overall for guys with at least 10GP.

I'd say Ryan Kesler or Paul Stastny would be decent comparables for Holland if I had to pick somebody. Big, two-way centres that can pass and score. I don't think Holland ever puts up 70 points like those guys did, and he doesn't have their face-off prowess either, so it's more like Kesler/Stastny-lite.

Holland's the best centre on the team right now.

I agree and you can tell he has more development to go. I'm kind of excited about having him on the team. It's turning into a very good trade so far.

We robbed Anaheim blind in that deal! I watched Holland play all the time in junior and he is a hell of a lot better than the treatment he got from the Ducks. Like I said in the trade thread they are too much in love with Rickard Rakell and gave Peter away for next to nothing. Not good asset management by the Ducks, but its to our benefit.

Yeah, better comparisons.  I was just thinking fondly on when the team was good.  It should also dis-spell the myth that faceoffs make or break the play of the team.  Holland is the worst of the 4 centers in the faceoff circle and he's been their best center.

Well Holland for Blacker + 2nd.  Still better value, but the Leafs were taking a bit of a gamble too if he wasn't any good and they gave up a prosect + 2nd round pick for a completely unproven player.

True, we don't yet know what that 2nd will be. I did like that we made a decent trade from a position of strength, Nonis had the defense core to do it with players like Finn, Percy and company on the way.

Make-up call for the high stick, but come on, make the call an actual penalty.  Two minutes for hitting a guy with the puck.
