World Cup rosters being announced

Not-Phil-Kessel added to the US team as Callahan's replacement: http://teamusa.usahockey.com/news_article/show/671487?referrer_id=701370

?Kyle (Palmieri) brings an all-around game that we?re confident will fit nicely with the framework we?re looking to build,? said Dean Lombardi, general manager of Team USA and also the general manager of the NHL?s Los Angeles Kings. ?He?s coming off an outstanding year in New Jersey and will play an important role with our team.?

I'll bet that Kessel declined.

He had to of, otherwise the decision making process here looks really bad.

The hand issue likely played a part but yeah, it doesn't really make sense otherwise.

Most likely. He probably doesn't want to risk participating in a not super meaningful tournament before he's 100%. Better for him to take the extra few weeks, just in case.

A couple of rosters changes recently due to injuries:

Logan Couture will replace Jamie Benn, and Rickard Rakell will take Steen's spot on Team Sweden.

Couture gets picked over guys like Perry and Hall.

The only good thing about this tournament is the fact I get to watch hockey earlier in the year than normal.

Right now there are single game tickets available to all the games. I thought about buying tickets but I'm not convinced it's worth it. I still don't get the young guns team made of players from countries already competing? I think it's dumb that a young gun can't play for his own country's team. The patriotism gets lost for me and the best teams from each country are not necessarily reflected.

There's probably only two players on the Young Guns group that would have made his countries team (McDavid for Canada, Gaudreau for the US).

Just don't like Canadians versus Canadians and I wish McDavid was on Canada. It will only be this year apparently, next world cup will include only countries which qualify for the tournament, no "all star" teams.

I am guessing the NHL participation in Olympics in probably dead with the restart of this tourney and I love Olympic hockey so I should probably get behind this tourney.

I don't know if I'd day it's dead, but I think it's not going to be a guarantee every Olympics from now on. I get the impression that the league isn't super interested in going to Korea or Beijing, but after that, who knows?

If the next two World Cups are a success then I'd say it's basically dead. I don't think the NHL loved the hassle that the Olympics brought even when the location was more convenient. So come 2026 if they've skipped the last 2 games and people have bought into the World Cup then I think they'll just act like that's the status quo.

Possibly, unless the Olympics end up in North America, and, especially if they end up in an NHL city.

I guess "Team Europe" is made up of players whose countries don't have enough players to put together a decent team?  Combine all those "B" level talent countries into one team?

Another injury update:

Uffe Bodin ‏@UffeBodin
Niklas Kronwall is out of World Cup 2016 due to injury. Hampus Lindholm takes his spot on Team Sweden. #WCOH2016

Team Sweden just got so much better.

Yeah, that's unfortunate, particularly since he's their only true elite left-handed defenceman.

Giordano may have been my choice to replace him but obviously they're counting on some familiarity there with Pietrangelo.

I'm sure it helps that Armstrong is the GM of the Blues and Team Canada.  I'd agree Giordano would probably be the best choice to replace Keith.  I didn't realize until now just how much of our elite defensive talent is right handed.  After Giordano, you could almost make the case Morgan Reilly is next (if he wasn't on Team North America) in terms of Canadian LHD.  The only other names that come up in the conversation are Brian Campbell (but he's aging quickly), Ryan Murray, and T.J. Brodie.

Is it okay to talk about the jerseys here? Because this is the first Team Canada jersey that I've been even remotely tempted to buy.

The website suggests they can't seem to decide on a red though.

Sweden has unfortunate Kronor placement. Team North America should've just gone with the logo we're all familiar with.
