World Cup rosters being announced

In these tournaments, the head coach selected seems to have tremendous sway in the team build since they have to gel relatively quickly. Coaches tend to pick the reliable order-followers who can stick to the game plans to anchor the more creative and skilled players.

I couldn't find much to complain about the Canadian roster this time.

Canada's also in the pretty fortunate position of being able to have guys like Bergeron and the like who will fill those roles while also being tremendously talented players. But even still every successful Canadian team in the post-Nagano era has been constructed with an eye to fit and role as well as just talent.

I mean, I don't have a problem with it but Babcock's L/R belief seems to be the driving force behind the blueline selections.

It was talked about on 1050 a few days ago. They had to make some tough cuts as a result of who played better on their strong sides, and which RHD had better numbers playing their off-side when necessary due to carrying more RH than LH.

I think the difference is that if you're left off the team the first go-around you very well might make holiday plans or something. It's important to keep in mind this isn't the Olympics.

I'd imagine that its just as important to these elite NHL'ers as the Olympics though, given that there are no guarantees that they'll even be released to compete in the next Olympics.

I think the importance of these things really comes from the prestige of the tournament and there's not really much here.

"Kessel shouldn?t be left off the roster again, but he very well could be if Lombardi wants to replace Callahan with the most Callahan-esque player possible."

Nick Foligno, come on down!

What's wrong with Lee Stempniak?

Leading scorer on the most recent Stanley Cup champions.

Led all forwards in scoring at the last best-on-best tournament.

If I were Kessel, I wouldn't play for the clowns running team USA.

As expected, Voynov not permitted to dress for Russian team:
