World Junior Hockey Championships (WJC) 2014

Anthony Mantha's inclusion caused a bit of a stir within some media circles here in Canada but he's leading the team and tied for the tournament lead in scoring and goals with 4G 6A 10PTS. JD has been fun to watch too yeah - some slick hands and silky skating.

That's the spirit!  Bravo Canada!  Canadian goaltender Zach Fucale was sensational in backstopping a 3-2 win over Team USA, enabling Canada to take top spot overall.

Goals by McDavid, Lazar also helped, as the Americans triedi to solve the riddle that was Fucale.

With the win, Canada will now face Switzerland in the Quarter-Finals Thursday, while the USA has a date with Russia.

Russia has just eliminated US 5-3. Defending champions are out and can not place better than 5th.
Russia will play in the semifinal the winner of Sweden-Slovakia QF
Czechs leading Finnland 3-2 after 2. Winner of this QF will face the winner of Canada-Switzerland QF

Phew.....that could have been Canada, had they lost against the US.
 
Oh well, congrats to Finland, Czechs like the Leafs stopped skating, trying to protect the lead only to surrender another 2 goals and empty netter on top of that. The winner of Canada-Switzerland plays Finland in SF.
 
I was just gonna say, Canada better start skating or there could be a BIG upset brewing. Still could happen, but Canada scores first!!!
 
Good win 4-1 over the Swiss, who tried playing a "passive" game in the hopes of unnerving the Canadians.  Didn't work to their advantage as Canada came out with plenty of determination.

With the win, Team Canada moves on to the Semi-Finals Saturday, playing Team Finland who defeated the Czechs 5-3.

In other Quarter-Final action, Team Russia defeated the defending WJHC USA by an identical score of 5-3, and thus will play Sweden in the upcoming Semi-Final Saturday.

The behavior of the Russians after the empty net goal was disgraceful. Not just the players, but the bench staff as well. Disgusting.

It is disgraceful behaviour, but when you live in Russia, I guess you take what you can get and try to make the most of it. :P

Kidding aside, it's seeing the coaching staff act like that that disappoints me.  The players should know better, but they're still kids.  The staff have no such excuses.

I know it looks bad on the Russians (and like you said especially on their staff), but I hardly doubt they were doing that to a bunch of Americans who were standing straight looking back at them stoically.
