World Juniors

These kids basically grew up with hockey shootouts. The NHL coin flip points will be so much more fun in the coming years.

Good job, both teams. The US clawed back from this one.

Bracco and Woll with Gold Medals!

I personally blame Marner and McDavid for being to good to play junior hockey anymore.

I blame Matthews, Tkachuk, Werenski and Hanifin for being too good too, only reason Canada had a sniff.

There are a lot of butt hurt folk on social media tonight.

The damned thing is that the tourney means infinitely more to Canadians than to Americans.  But oh well, sounds like it was an exciting game.  Can't wait to hear Cherry's consolatory/exculpatory analysis Sat nite.

Oh, thosc shootouts are torture, but somebody had to win....

....and congratulations Team USA, on defeating Team Canada 5-4 on the shootout.

Looks like USA forward Troy Terry was the shootout hero, and Canada's Nicholas Roy the culprit of a rolling puck off his stick.  Natch.

Perhaps one say that the Canadians had so many scoring chances, so did the Americans; both goaltenders were outstanding in regulation, in the OT, and in the shootout; both teams played quite possibly one of the best, it not the best, Gold Medal games in WJHC history; both sides were evenly matched; both had identical shootout results, until Terry's goal and Roy's awkward shot....on and on we can go.  But one thing is clear:  it was simply hockey atit's best, at it's fastest, with oohs & aahs here and there.

No shame to the Silver medallists Team Canada.  It goes to show just how much it takes to beat the team from the hockey land of the world.  To opposing counties, it's always an honour to beat Canada.  In this Gold Medal match, it could easily have gone Canada's way.  We took the lead twice.  The U.S. tied it up twice.

That's how tough a game it was...for both.

Congratulations to Team Canada and Team USA,  for showcasing ice hockey at it's finest!

As I was watching, I was pretty much cheering for the US, hedging to be pleased with either result. The US coach's "OH POOP" face when they got tagged for the too-many-men was hilarious.

Could you imagine what sort of game it would've been if all those 2015/16 picks were still in this tournament?

I guess we'll just ignore Crouse, Chychrun, and Konecny too, you know, since we're naming eligible players currently in the NHL who would have made a difference.

Agree with you about the butt hurt- it's a bit too much.  It always sucks to come out on the wrong end of a damned shootout though.

Are we really going to boast about a guy with 2G 2A in 34GP?

He would be back for his THIRD WJHC.  Experience doesn't matter?  Last year he was a point per game player at the tournament too.  Don't let his stats as 19 year old on a terrible team in the NHL tell you he wouldn't have still had an impact.

BTW, I bet he still flames out in the NHL.  Many WJHC winning STARS have done the same.  Here are just a few Canadian ones:
