2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

What do we think of Dougie Hamilton in a trade if Tenev is done for the season? Apparently, the leafs have 3.something in cap space. 4.5 more with Tenev LTIR. The Devils would only need to retain 1 million with minimal salary heading back. Cap is going up. He had 40 points last year. Is only 32 (like all the other Leaf D).

If it's a case of the Devils essentially giving him away I'd have some interest but only if Tanev is definitely done for the season. It might even require Tanev to be just done-done period to make the cap work next season too.

I've floated a Rielly for Hamilton suggestion a few times too. On the surface I think it'd be a good change of scenery for both players but I doubt Rielly has any interest in waiving his NMC.

I don't think the Leafs are a contender, so giving up futures shouldn't happen. A scenery-type move might be worth a shot.

He's been nothing short of awful this season. Could jsut be a bad year, but, could also be all those injuries have caught up to him and he's lost too much footspeed. I wouldn't give up much for him and NJ would need to seriously retain.

He's certainly having a down year but awful might be a stretch. He still leads all Devils defencemen in CF% at 54%, leads their top-6 defencemen in GF% and has the lowest GA/60, and has the highest xGF% on the team besides Bratt and Hughes. Offensively things have been bad but he's also had the lowest on-ice shooting percentage of his career.

Some were saying some of the offensive numbers are a result of him being taken off the powerplay in favour of Luke Hughes. He would be an upgrade for the power play. He has a shot. I agree with others though, you can't give up anything significant for him in terms of future assets.
