2011 Blue Jays/MLB Thread

So barring any trades the Jays rotation right now will look like:

Romero - Morrow - Alvarez - McGowan/Cecil/Drabek/Litsch

Awesome

Something like that, but, with the Jays being linked to every starter in the rumour mill, I expect they'll get somethign done - though, I suspect the cost will be high.

Pitching is nice, but I think they need better hitters a little bit more than starting pitching. Their current rotation is easily as good as New York's, if not better.

Improve the bullpen, get better hitters.

They scored the 6th most runs in the Major Leagues last year.

The Yankees top 5 SP's had bWAR's of 6.8, 3.6, 3.4, 2.6 and 1.1 for a total of 17.5
The Jays top 5 SP's had bWAR's of 5.9, 1.4, 1.3, 1.2 and 0.7 for a total of 10.5

After Romero it's a bunch of question marks.

And it's not even question marks like, say, Matt Moore in Tampa where they're highly touted prospects and it's "is he ready?". It's question marks like "should this guy be a MLB starting pitcher?"

I'm not sure how much to read into it but they didn't exactly have a great second half offensively though:

Dead last in batting average - .239
21st in OBP - .312
18th in OPS - .714

25th in wRC+; 18th, 19th, and 27th in WAR for July, August, September/October

The Jays offense could end up being really bad next year.

I think Bautista, Escobar and Lawrie will produce.

After that, I don't know what we are going to get from any of our hitters

I think there's probably just as, if not more, reason to believe that Rasmus will produce than there is for Lawrie. I think they'll almost have to get more from K. Johnson than they got from Hill.

The offense is definitely rosier than the SP.

The bullpen is all kinds of awesome too:

S. Santos (CL); C. Janssen; J. Litsch; J. Carreno; L. Perez; C. Villanueva; D. Farquhar; C. Beck

Dangit. The Jays really should have lapped the field here.

Maybe I'm just being ornery because I let myself think the Jays had a shot at Darvish, but I'm having a hard time looking at this roster and seeing how it wouldn't be ripped had JP Ricciardi put it together.  It's not very good, a bunch of flawed players who haven't really developed since stepping foot in the organization and lineups that rely on 1-2 players to carry the team.

Well, the people who are going to be jazzed are going to be the people who are big into the prospect porn and the BA rankings and so on. As a Major League team, as currently constructed, they don't look too hot and so I agree.

After they sign Fielder, Oswalt, Beltran, Jackson and trade for Bailey, Gonzalez and Garza, you'll be singing a different tune. :P
