The pick is a lottery pick not in the top 3 next 2 years, not top 2 the next 4 years and not #1 overall all 5 years.

If the raptors make the playoffs, the raptors keep the pick.

Say Toronto finishes with the 12th overall pick heading into next years draft. As I understand the deal, that would mean the pick would go to Houston.

Now if so, does Houston have a choice to say "No, we'll wait and see if the pick turns out better next season under the terms of the deal", or are they forced to receive that 12th overall no matter what?

That's something that can be built into a trade, the option to roll over a protected pick, but it's not automatically involved. Until it's reported as such Houston would just have to take the 12th.

I thought I'd add a couple things; mediocre shooter, still learning the finer points of running an offense and sometimes turnover prone.

With that said, he's younger, cheaper and probably makes more sense for this Raptors group. He won't change the culture of the Raptors team, which I think is what a guy like Nash would have done, but he probably makes them better. And he came for a pretty reasonable price.

Derozan, Davis & Calderon for Iguodala & Vucevic

Interesting to say the least. Improves the defense and really puts Bargnani as the key offensive player while adding a started who can help negate some of Bargs' deficiencies. Iguodala coupled with Lowry really changes the defensive ability of this team and puts two strong rebounding guards on the court to make up for Bargnani's phobia of rebounding.

It really shouldn't. If the old maxim of the team getting the best player is the winner holds true, well, that's Iguodala. No ifs ands or buts. The guy is one of the best perimeter defenders in the league.

I don't love the deal. I'm a big Ed Davis believer but Calderon is yesterday's news and DeRozan is probably stuck where he is unless he all of a sudden learns how to shoot. Ross/Lowry are good replacements for each. Even Davis will probably be #3 on the depth chart behind Bargnani and Johnson.

I'm with you Nik in that the biggest loss in that deal is Davis. If somehow Colangelo could keep him out of the deal and sub in/amnesty Amir, I'd be all over that. Open up some PT for Davis and save some money.

EDIT: Another bonus about the deal is Iguodala's contract status - one more year and a player option for just over $15m. If he stays, great, if he goes, BC suddenly has a ton of cap space to play around with.

Lowry has one of the best contracts in the league, mind you only for 2 more years. He was averaging 15 and 7 before he got injured.

I'm high on ED as well but man, it would be a welcome change for the Raptors to actually have an elite defender on the team. Iguodala is a beast defensively and can fill the basket too when he's on.

Speaking of Ed Davis, he tweeted something to the effect of "Welcome Lowry to the best city in the world" today. Kind of cool to hear that.

Ummm?  Brandon Roy is coming out of retirement to play for the Timberwolves.  He signed a two year 10+ million dollar deal. 
His knees were gone when he retired.  I hate to break it to him, but your knees don't grow back.
