DarrenDreger: Told by mediators advice there was no face to face between players and NHL today. No change from Thursday in either sides position.

This whole saga has become immensely boring.  It's rapidly approaching the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, or arguing over abortion, as examples of epochal ennui.

At a party last night, I met someone (I won't mention his name) and in casual coveration, I brought up the hockey/CBA stuff and as it turns out, he works for the CBC/HNIC . He's an off-camera guy (otherwise I would have knew who he was) but it was obvious to me he was very well informed. - even before I learned who he was. Anyway, I told him I thought there'd be hockey in January and he sort of laughed at me a little... He believes wholeheartedly that the season is done - Not a prayer. He believes nobody at this juncture wants a season this short and what we are seeing now is just (for the most part) optics. His people feel the two sides are just too far apart. He also went into who/where people (including himself) have recently been assigned to other projects, etc. and that it would be a massive undertaking to recall them given the importance of these new projects.

Personally, I haven't given up hope. Part of me feels this is just the CBC making a guess here and will have to suck it up and scramble if they're wrong and that there is certainly room for them to be. I still believe that there is still something can be salvaged out of this season but man, this certainly didn't make me feel good about the state of affairs here. Whatever is going on in New Jersey/New York (wherever they are right now) certainly could be the final hail Mary pass.

My wife works for the CBC and have seen no evidence of any inside lockout knowledge...

Yeah but realistically, how important is the CBC to the NHL? I mean, the vast majority of RSN's and national networks that hold broadcast rights aren't reassigning people. It's not like Rogers has somewhere to assign Nick Kypreos besides hockey. I doubt the CBC's production realities are going to be the driving force behind any deal or lack of a deal.

We're getting some pretty wide spread capitulation going on among hockey fans. If this were the stock market, I'd be inclined to pull the trigger any day now. ;)

DarrenDreger: Well, one side says there was a meeting this am and now the other side says there wasn't. Somewhat humorous.

So, now they can't even agree on whether or not there's a meeting? Yay!

That's an article from mid-September. I'm guessing you can't get even money on the Winter Classic being played.

Please just end. I'm anxious for some NHL-level hockey and also curious to see what else, if anything, Burke is going to do with this roster.

You're betting there is a season, right?

They wouldn't be... All I'm saying is that he and some other pretty key folks at HNIC are on to other things. This particular fellow now has a large, long term assignment in South America. Like I said, sure, the CBC would have to scramble if need be but I was left with the impression that they're guessing they won't have to.

I don't think they'd need to scramble that much either. There are a lot of people in cities like Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver who are capable of doing the behind the camera stuff they'd need done.

DarrenDreger: Doesn't sound like PA is willing to work with the NHL's 3 main issues. League responded by saying it won't budge. No progress. As you were.

Perhaps but I'm fairly certain this particular fellow would be recalled.

If they cancel a season over those 3 issues, that could be enough to drive me away.

Then again, I'm probably full of crap and will watch whenever they come back.

I feel the same way but knowing myself as soon hockey starts , I'll be smitten like a little school  boy on his first crush

President Obama weighs in on NHL lockout...

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl-lockout/2012/12/13/nhl_labour_update_dec13/

President Barack Obama addressed the stalemate in an interview Thursday with WCCO-TV in Minneapolis.

"My message to owners and to players is, 'You guys make a lot of money and you make a lot of money on the backs of fans, so do right by your fans. You can figure out how to spread out a bunch of revenue that you're bringing in, but do right by the people who support you,"' Obama said. "And I shouldn't have to be involved in a dispute between really wealthy players and even wealthier owners. They should be able to settle this themselves. And remember who it is that's putting all that money in their pockets."

Yes, the NHL and the PA will talk today. But the topic would not really make it a bargaining call. Its on 1 specific topic.

I wonder what that topic is?
