Great. Now can we also get some kind of suspension for the announcer that called it a "textbook", "shoulder-to-shoulder" hit?

Well, Bortuzzo was suspended for the timing (i.e. interference) rather than head contact I do believe.

The lateness of it was the big thing for me. Also apparently Bortuzzo was going at Jagr all game long which doesn't help his case either.

As for the announcer thing, I'm assuming it was the Pens guy who said that? Shouldn't really put much stock in things a homer announcer says.

How did Calgary suddenly turn it around and leapfrog the Oilers development?  For years we've heard how great the Oilers will be with all their high draft picks and they continue to be dead last in the league.  They may just get McDavid which should finally help them, but man, what a disaster in Edmonton.

Biggest thing besides chemistry issues which are hard to quantify, Jonas Hiller.

The Flames also have one of the best defence pairings in the league in Giordano-Brodie.

There is a fair amount of time between release of the puck and the hit. 0.5 seconds is usually the maximum allowable amount. Outside of the interference I would have a hard time finding too much wrong with the hit.

Also, if that is interference, how can they not even look at the Ovechkin/Komarov hit? Ovi is head up, eyes forward, open ice, puck nowhere in sight and still clips him. He did a good job of selling the "accident" I suppose.

I feel like the way Edmonton went about their rebuild was they stripped their roster down so much that they were almost starting out like an expansion team again.  They just jettisoned player after player to finish last and have all of the young players coming into their prime at the same time.  But then they've also drafted terribly after the top 10.

The Mr. Bean comparison always cracks me up and is so spot on:

Has he brought up how many Stanley Cups he's won yet? That was my all-time favourite Loweism.

Not yet, no. A lot of stuff about effort and having fired a number of coaches in the past decade and compete level and execution and "the message that sends" or "the message the coaches are trying to communicate," not being in a position to expend assets, prices around the league being high, etc. Slap the Leafs logo behind MacT, and you have a lot of the Leafs' pressers over the past few years.

I hate that he's behind Eakins. The only way this situation gets funnier is if Mac fires him and puts himself behind the bench again.

Doesn't sound like he's going to do anything. This whole thing has basically been MacTavish struggling to justify how committed he is to not making any significant moves in terms of the roster or the coach. He sounds an awful lot like the Leafs front office over the past year or so. He's basically saying "Don't blame me. I didn't create this mess. I'm not doing anything to fix it, but I didn't create it (even, though, yeah, I did have a significant part in creating it)."

Mac seemed to point emphatically at the teams previous management as a reason for their current failures. He also said their lack of success at the draft was a big problem.

Their director of amateur scouting has been with them since 2007. Their head pro scout has been with the team since 2001. It's amazing how people in those types of positions never get fired.

The Oilers are the epitome of the old boys club. He did also say that new president Bob Nicholson is doing a full review of the organization, like Shanny is with the Leafs, but, unlike Shanny, he hasn't really made any changes at any level, other than bringing in one analytics guy. While Shanny may not have removed the two most prominent faces, he has at least completely revamped the rest of the front office.
