8 straight losses..wow

Philadelphia is in a free fall as well. 3 straight losses now. And they are off to a western road swing next week with San Jose, Anaheim and the Kings. That's a team that makes no sense how they play. So much talent.

At least with Philly we know they don't / won't sit on their hands very long if things aren't going well. The Oilers seem catatonic. They need to do something to shake things up there. Anything.

For Edmonton, if the rumours are true that they want to deal Perron, that's laughable! Like that is going to culture on that team.

Was Schenn scratched again?

I'm talking about trading one of their lottery guys (Hall / Eberle / RNH / Yakupov). Definitely for either a goalie or defensemen. That's where the value is on that team, but it's slowly evaporating. Trading Perron would just be a lateral move.

Honestly, at this point I think they need to fire the President/GM/Vice President of Hockey Operations and bring in new ideas in general.

Yeah absolutely I've been advocating removal of the '80s Oilers Old Boys brain trust for a while. What's less likely to happen you think - the cronies go or Mac T trades one of their draft princes?

So I guess no supplementary discipline for Ovechkin after the hit on Komarov?  I haven't heard any talk about it yet.

Here's the hit in question for those who might have missed it, or who want a second look:

Not much there imo - he didn't chicken wing or board him just bumped him. I think he thought about it and bailed out at the last second, but OV could have really hurt them there if he wanted too.

9 straight. 10 straight. Chances of recovering and making the playoffs are a generous slim to none...and it's only Dec 1. I guess there has been some progress made iirc last year they were effectively done by Nov 1. Darryl Katz can't be this loyal (to a fault) can he?

It's quite amazing.  I think it's actually difficult to be this bad for this long.

It takes a really strong belief in your convictions to sit there and basically do nothing - certainly nothing significant - while your team is this bad for so long. The Oilers' front office is certainly something.

We've talked about the Oilers draft record before here, but somebody just posted this on twitter so it seemed worth bringing up again:

And Rieder scored 2 SH goals on the same penalty against the Oilers last night.

Also:

@BruceMcCurdy

Since 2009 #Oilers have had 43 draft picks in 2nd round or later.  They have scored 7 NHL goals.  Tobias Rieder has 4, others combined have 3

When was the last time Mac T addressed the media? It's one thing to do nothing while being transparent / upfront with the media during a huge crisis but it's another thing to do nothing and basically go into hiding. Maybe we just don't get it here but the Edmonton media doesn't seem to be too sussed about the current state of the team either.

After last night, that number jumped to 9. Rieder has 6 of them - all this season.

EDIT: It also doesn't get much better if you include picks outside the top 10 or go back a few seasons. You have to go all the way back to 2003 to find an Oiler draftee not taken in the 1st round that has at least 20 career goals.
