Based on anecdotal evidence of course, it's surprisingly common in one form or another though.

I guess. But I think it's one of those things where we'll hear about every instance where it does happen and won't hear about the millions of times it doesn't and inflate it a little.

Down goes Lucic vs Blue Jacket's Prout.

About time someone gave Lucic a dosage of his own medicine!

Take it from a veteran...in this case, 'Battlin' Billy Smith...

"We had a good group of guys," he said. "We had 16 guys that probably played seven years together, eight years together. You do get to know each other really well."

The New York Islanders are the last team in any of the major North American sports to win four consecutive chances...a record streak of 19 consecutive playoff series victories.

Do you think you can hold 16 guys together on one team for four years? Not with the money today. A fourth line guy now, being on a Stanley Cup [winner] two years in a row, isn't he going to be much more valuable somewhere else?"

(Said Islanders coach Jack Capuano):"He was a focused individual. He came to the rink every day with the mentality that he was going to get better, but at the same time, he was going to have fun. He was going to enjoy the time he had playing this great game."

"It's great to have that presence in our dressing room," Strome said. "Obviously we know what those guys have done in the past; they're someone we can look up to. We're surrounded by history in this building. To see it firsthand is something special. A lot of guys appreciate what he did. [He said] some really motivating stuff. It makes guys want to get to that level and play in those types of games. It's great to have that around."

How is Edmonton still in last?  Leafs couldn't end up there if they tried.

What a comically bad organization.  If they stopped being so inbred in their organization you could probably turn the franchise around pretty quick though.  They have enough 1st round talent that a few trades here and there and you could have a drastically different team.

Are we going to hear about the Oilers losing 7-1 for the next week now?

In all seriousness that was probably the last stand of Dallas Eakins.

At what point do they stop blaming coaches in Edmonton though?

It's probably time to stop talking about their "top end talent" as well.  Individually they may become good players on a good team where they don't have to do the heavy lifting but I don't see any of them being the cornerstone of a great team.

I think they really need to move Eberle. He has the second highest value IMO behind Hall and is the guy I'd move of the two of them.

RNH and Yak have relatively little value at this time and have yet to show what they can do in this league.

I don't know what they could get in return for him, but they're not changing the team for the better without moving a "core piece".

When they fire the '84 Oilers old boys network!

Figured I'd pop in and give props to Lehtonen for Dallas last night - raced out of his crease and made a breakaway pass to Seguin and caught the Kings on a line change early in the 2nd last night that put the Stars up 4-0 at the time. Pretty sweet pass.

If it wasn't for his injury problems (and having to play for Atlanta for so long) I think he'd have established himself as a top-5 goalie by now.

I always found him just below that final tier of goaltenders.  Playing for a pretty bad Atlanta franchise and then following that up with the Stars really only having a handful of good years he's still carved out a very nice career.

.915 SV%  222 wins

He really hasn't had any playoff opportunity/success though.  8 career starts and a .874 SV%.

Never forget that Big Red Machine (Central Red Army).  They were something.  And Tikhonov, as authoritarian a figure he was, was probably the best they had in the time be coached.

"Miracle on Ice" was highly symbolic signaling the coming end of the Cold War with the Soviets, and at that time the coming of the soon-to-be "Glasnost & Perestroika" with Moscow.
