Didn't know where else to post this, but was just reading a Yahoo article about trading Evander Kane and it mentioned that the Jets GM Cheveldayoff has never made a player for player trade - only picks for players or players for picks.  He's been GM since 2011.  That's pretty remarkable.

It's not entirely true. He's made a couple really really minor player for player moves.

Did I really have to say NHL player for NHL player?  I doubt anyone was kept up wondering if I meant NHL or AHL players.

Your lack of clarity disturbs me.

Greatly.

Don't worry Habs fans, I'm sure it'll end well.

@reporterchris

Another break in the Subban arbitration hearing. P.K. did not look happy ... at all.

@reporterchris

P.K. Subban says no deal was reached today. Arbitrator will decide his contract for next season. "We have to live with those decisions."

@reporterchris

Don Meehan tells Sportsnet that there are no plans to continue negotiating a long-term deal for Subban before the arbitrator's award.

@reporterchris

There is obviously time for cooler heads to prevail but none of the principles left the Subban hearing in good spirits.

Man, the 2016-17 season is going to be awesome:

JVR-Stamkos-Kessel
Lupul-Kadri-Nylander

Rielly-Subban
Gardiner-Phaneuf

I'd fill out the rest of the line-up but we might be pretty close to the cap so lets just run those 10 guys plus Bernier.

A bunch of us could fill out the rest of the lineup, since we'd barely get any ice time any way.

Subban is Montreal's Franson.

It doesn't bode well for a long term deal, and that would lead to trade talk all damn season.

Plus Subban has already basically admitted it.  When asked if he'd ever considered going home to play for Toronto he said "I'd be wrong to say that I haven't thought about it."

That might as well be a contract right there.

Stupid Nonis, how hasn't he made that a binding deal yet? Dubas would have.

Some habs fans on HFBoards are freakin' out about it ("just trade him now", "he's greedy", etc).  It's a little funny.

Fact?

I read the first sentence and I thought "as they absolutely should be". But then I read what was in the parenthesis and my jaw dropped.

Yeah. It feels like there's always been some tension in that relationship. They love him during the season, but, once the offseason rolls around, there always seems to be an issue there. I think there's a good chance PK leaves Montreal as soon as he's able to do so freely.

I don't really get what Montreal is thinking. Either he's the Norris winner from a few years ago or he's the 50 pt player from this year who wasn't that far off a PPG pace in the playoffs. Either way he's worth north of 6M per. He's an elite talent in the league (just my opinion of course), so they should make sure he stays around for a long time. If it takes 8M per then I don't really see another choice short of trading him.

He's been pretty consistent in his play but still has some defensive issues to iron out but making him unhappy and losing control through 2 successive arbitrations seems about the stupidest approach they could take.Especially with someone as (seemingly) self-assured as Subban.

Its absolutely insane. I'm not a huge Subban fan, but he's easily worth 7-8M a season on a long term deal vs comparables. I'm at a loss why a team would intentionally try to piss off a franchise asset.

It is puzzling. 8 x 8 I'd say is where he needs to be, maybe Bergevin loses his job over this.

They just re-signed Andrei Markov to a 3 year 5.75M contract.  Markov put up 73 points over the last two years (129 games) and 11 points in 22 playoff games.

Subban put up 91 points in 124 games and 18 points in 22 playoff games.

I'm sure they offered more than 5.25 on a longer deal to him outside of their arbitration filing but this is going to be ugly.  Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the player gets to decide if it's a 1 or 2 year deal in arbitration? If the arbitrator offers 7+ million I wonder if he takes a 2 year deal to reach free agency.
