Jagr scored his 718th career NHL goal.  He passed Phil Esposito and is now 5th all time in goal scoring.  He's 9 points away from 1800.  Florida isn't going to make the playoffs but Jagr has 7 points in the 9 games since his trade.  I hope he comes back next year and hits 1800 points.

A team missing the playoffs because another team won a couple more shootouts then them is much worse IMO.

I think there are cases where two teams play 60-70 minutes of hockey and deserve the same amount of points. It would reflect what actually happened on the ice, rather than a bonus point for a skills competition.

This is my view too.  I don't recall growing up ever hating ties, was there always some lingering dislike of them from a majority of fans?
 
Ties are fine, so are wins and so are losses as long as both teams are playing to win for the full 60+5.

All I am looking for is good entertainment value for the 82games.  I couldn't care less if they gave the stanley cup to the presidents trophy winner.  Playoffs are pretty much a crapshot.  I would like a leafs stanley cup though, just to have the huge party and cross it off the bucketlist.  Like with soccer I much prefer a strong season performance.  I would rather be outside during the playoff season anyway, even if the leafs are still in the hunt.

Of course I watch hockey, which is why I'm saying my preference isn't 4-on-4 (or even 3-on-3).
 
Kings are finally back in the playoffs, 1 point up on Calgary with GP being equal. The Flames hold the 1st tie-breaker but it's close (36 ROW to 35). Going to be a very tight race between those 2 and Winnipeg. I think Calgary's going to be the team in 9th though.

Good to hear as they are my 'backup' team for the playoffs the past few years.  It's hard to imagine, but possible, that all of LA, San Jose and Boston miss the playoffs this year.  And if there were an additional 10 games left in the season, you might add the Pens to that list the way they're going.

No teams are really pulling away from the pack.  One of the interesting teams is Dallas.  They likely have too much ground to try and make up but they are 8-2-0 in their last 10 games.  They went 3-5-2 in the 10 games Seguin missed to his knee injury.  They were 5-3-2 in the 10 games prior to his injury.  The 2-3 extra wins they likely grab over that stretch could have had them in playoff contention too.
 
Rangers aren't doing the Canadian teams any favours - losses to the Kings and Bruins and a win over Ottawa have the Sens and Flames on the outside looking in.
 
Flames win, Kings lose. LA is now a full two points behind Winnipeg with both of them at 76 GP.

It's interesting to see the graph showing how OT games spike towards the end of the season, while under the old points format, the number of games going to OT went down.
