2014-2015 NHL Waivers/ Buyout Thread

That would be a great pickup.

I don't think we'll see him here, but you'd have to think that Toronto would put Gleason on waivers today, before any call to Ehrhoff's agent takes place.

Plus, he plays the left side doesn't he? He'd essentially negate moving Gardiner and Riley up the line-up.

TSNBobMcKenzie: BUF has initiated compliance buyout procedures on Christian Ehrhoff. Not official just yet but BUF has begun the process.

This one is a bit of a surprise. I know he's got a lot of years left on his contract, but, it's at good value. I guess they'd rather avoid the potential recapture penalty issues instead of trading him, because I can't believe no one would have been willing to pick him up.

I'm just scanning Twitter and I'm reading stuff about Buffalo not being close to even the  cap floor right now?

With Ehrhoff now officially being bought out, they're a shade over $30M with 14 players signed. They need to add ~$21M in salary by opening night.

Hey I know a guy who can help.

And, his contract expires right around the time they might be able to be good again!

And I mean...

@TSNBobMcKenzie

I would imagine BUF's pre-draft offer to take other teams' bad contracts, accompanied by draft pick(s) to BUF, remains in effect.

Or is his so bad that not even Buffalo would take it to get to the floor?  They could probably just buy him out.

A ton of dead cap space for 6 years while they're rebuilding? Yeah. I mean, right now, they have some good young players, but no one who looks like they're going to need big money any time soon, so . . .

They'd probably want a nicer asset than I'd be willing to give up to make that move, though.

Rights to Reimer + Franson + Clarkson + Leafs retain $200,000 for a 7th

Fixed it for you.

You forgot to add a 4th round pick.

While Clarkson is probably out of the question for Buffalo, I wonder maybe if they'd be open to maybe taking Gleason. It's a short deal and at a position where they could use some depth.

Is today the last day to waive a player for this purpose? Or is it tomorrow?

If Gleason isn't on buyout waivers, they could trade him in a scenario like you're describing.
