Two in the top 5 rookie scoring and one tied for the rookie lead in goals - you guys tell yourself whatever you have to to deal with it.

You and the other Sens fan must be really proud.

You guys know as much about the Sens as I do the Leafs

Yeah, I heard you the first time.

I was actually somewhat impressed when I saw that a sen was leading rookies in goal until I realized that he was 25 years old.

He's actually 10 months older than Kadri.

Panthers have put D Dylan Olsen on waivers.  That's someone worth a shot for the Leafs.

@mirtle

Leafs may want to look at a waiver claim of defenceman Dylan Olsen with their injuries. He's young enough.

@APetrielli

Olsen is a 6'2, LHD drafted in the 1st round, 20pts in 88gms, career 50CF%. Might be worth a shot

3 years younger than Holzer too. 6'2'', 223lbs. Only problem is that it would put the Leafs either at 49 or 50 contracts, tough to check without capgeek.

The latest cached version of the Leafs' reserve list I can find is from July 7th, but, going off of that with what comes to mind for contracts they've added since, I have them at 49.

That's what I remember them being at last time I checked too.

edit: was that counting Nylander in Sweden? I'm not sure if we ever truly figured out if he counted or not, but I guess he would now.

That's not including Nylander. His situation is unclear. Because he's a slide risk and still junior eligible, I don't think he counts until he actually joins the NHL roster, but, I really don't know for sure. If he does, then they're at 50.

I remember looking into this now. I think the distinction was Nylander had to be returned to a junior club for him to be removed from the reserve list. If he was still playing professional hockey somewhere (NHL, AHL, Europe) he counts.

I think he counts once he plays 11 games in the AHL, based on a quick google search.

I vaguely remember that coming up, but, I also feel like there was some confusion there, too. Since playing in the AHL doesn't burn off a year of his contract unless he plays in the NHL as well (for 10 games, I believe), his contract is still considered to be "sliding." I have a hard time believing a contract that isn't being impacted would still be considered a contract on the reserve list.

Does it have to do with the fact that he's under 20?  I thought I recalled reading something that Nylander's deal would slide in the AHL/not count against 50 limit until he turned 20.

His contract is definitely sliding as long as he doesn't play 11 NHL games, there's just some confusion over whether or not he counts against the Leafs 50-contract reserve list. The CBA is a little vague on that.

Well assigning a player to juniors is different than assigning him to the AHL or Europe though. The Leafs loaned him to Modo, and were able to recall him back to the NHL. If they sent him to Mississauga they couldn't have done that until his OHL season was over.

Hmm, well now this makes me think his contract does count against the 50 contract limit:

reservelist.png

"Age 18 and 19 players who were returned to Juniors, and who have not played 11 NHL games in one season, shall be exempt from inclusion in the 50 player limit."

The "and" leads me to believe it would count because even if he doesn't play 11 NHL games he doesn't satisfy the "returned to junior" part.

Right. That's where I'm at too. Just judging from the language here the slide rule and the 50-contract exemption have similar but not the same guidelines. They could have just left it at "doesn't play 11 NHL games".

Leafs actually can't claim anyone on waivers now as they're at the 50 contract max. Bit of a shame but not unusual situation.

Well there it is.

Hooray for 2 year contracts for Colton Orr and Frazer McLaren!

Couldn't they just release either guy?
