2015-2016 Toronto Raptors Thread: We Have "It"!

Kyle Lowry got a pretty big vote swing to finish ahead of Kyrie Irving in the All-Star voting.

Also, the NBA ended up 14,000 votes away from their own John Scott situation with Zaza Pachulia only getting beat by Kahwi Leonard by that margin for the final Forward spot in the west.

I wouldn't quite go that far.  Pachulia is a 10/10 center this year for the Mavs.  It's pretty awful but at least he's an actual NBA player.

No, you're right. It wouldn't have been to the same extent. Although I think the outcry/calls to reform fan voting would have been just as loud as people actually care about the NBA all-star game.

I was actually surprised to see just how good of a season he is actually having.  He's in the top 50 in the NBA in player efficiency.

Woo-hoo!  Raptors win their franchise record-tying ninth win in a row, walloping the Wizards 106-89.

Despite the win, coach Casey sounded a warning...

Coach Dwane Casey is trying to temper the team?s mood during this hot streak ? "The guys will tell you I?m a negative Nelly," he said pre-game. And true to form, he picked apart the Raptors? defensive efforts after the victory.

"Our transition defence was non-existent. We were in a malaise with our transition defence," he said. "Again we found a way to win, but you can?t continue to live like that. We?ve got to get a complete game where things are going the way we want them to go both offensively and defensively. I applaud our guys for finding a way to pull it out."

I was just thinking, what's up with that Caboclo?  Is he shaping up to be anything worthy of a first round selection?

Not yet. But, you know, two years away from being two years away and all that.

No surprise but DeMar gets an All-Star nod.

Also, no Anthony, Porzingis or Calderon for the Knicks tonight whereas Lowry is playing. Seems like a pretty good sign.

A nice reminder why I'm a fan and not a GM.  Patterson and Ross, I was ready to tie to a rock and send to New Jersey.  They have both come on nicely.  It's not just the production but I think the level of their play has improved.  Ross has been pretty consistent with his effort of late in a way I don't really remember from him before.  Even if he isn't putting up 51 points his effort on defense is considerably better.

It's too bad the NBA is somewhat stupid and is letting Lue coach the East instead of giving it to Casey.

This is really nice listening to the TNT crew call this game.

Trade deadline today. Raptors are in a pretty good spot with some legitimate assets(their first rounder, the Knicks/Nuggets first roudner, the Clippers 2017 first rounder, Delon Wright) and a real need at PF. Some big names being floated out there like Pau Gasol, Al Horford...maybe even Blake Griffin.

I don't think Masai is in a tough spot exactly but if the Raptors don't make real playoff noise and they sit tight at the deadline it's going to look like a real opportunity being wasted.

Sounds like nothing coming for the Raptors.  I'm not disappointed in keeping the Knicks pick but it would have been nice to upgrade the PF situation.

Tough to swallow when the Cavs were able to add a piece but, well, I guess you don't want to mess with what's working.

Also, it just seems bizarre to me that the NBA hasn't really embraced the "We're not going anywhere, this guy is a pending UFA, we might as well trade him for whatever we can get" mentality. Why is Ryan Anderson still in NO? Or Horford in Atlanta?

I was an advocate of maybe trading the Nuggets/Knicks pick at the deadline for immediate help but since they didn't...the Nuggets have the fourth worst record in the West, the Knicks have the 3rd worst record in the East. As it stands they have a pretty excellent chance of winding up with a top 10 pick.

Currently 6th (Denver) and 8th (New York).  Obviously a hot streak could change things but Gallinari wrecked his ankle and is going to miss at least a month for Denver.  They also traded Foye at the deadline.

Problem is we need them both to suck. Thankfully it looks like the Knicks are imploding a little.
