What an interesting mix.  Both Laine and Crosby have a roughly equal number of wrist shots, with Laine owning more slap shots to Crosby's none.

Crosby's seem to include deflections and backhanded shots (which Laine has nil).

The slap shot and backhanders are practically art forms and require accuracy more than even wrist shots, deflections, or whatever.

Observations indicate that Laine's goals are from further out whereas Crosby's seem further in in the offensive zone (nearer the net).

Could this make Laine the better sharpshooter from those angles?

Interesting the number Crosby has from pretty bad angles - 16 and 7 in particular, but also probably 15, 11, 3 & 9

I haven't been able to dig up any graphics that express this, but going by CBS's shot/goal location tracker, Matthews' looks like Crosby's.

Price should have been tossed.

Suspension coming?

There's a match penalty rule for goalies hitting the head with the blocker in an attempt to injure. The three strikes into Palmieri seem to be into the upper back/ribs. DoPS will probably cite that as their reason for not assessing further consequences.

The refs went with a double minor for roughing. A match penalty in the early goings of the game to the superstar goalie for taking exception to getting run might have caused a riot.

This post sounds confrontational, that's not my intent, I love me some herman.

Have you ever been hit by a goalie's blocker like that?

It's the repeated strikes that make it suspendable to me, one would have been somewhat understandable in the heat of the moment.

Price repeatedly strikes him with a weapon, that's intent to injure and should be punished as such.

I agree that's what should happen actually. Not that I've seen it much myself, but a lot of commentors on reddit cite other goalies that have done similar and have not had this rule applied.

Going by how DoPS has gone recently, I can see them looking for reasons to not suspend Price.

What's pretty ridiculous as well is Palmieri being assessed a goaltender interference on the play. The Devils got a 5-4 PP for 2 minutes for getting tripped into the goalie and then getting blocker smashed three times.

As expected, disappointinglyish.

I don't understand what he was actually trying to do. He had plenty time to at least turn towards the corner!

Yeah. He had like, what, 3 feet of space between the net and the goalie? And that's assuming Hellebuyck would have made no effort to re-position himself (which he of course would). Why try and bank it through the small space? Just a completely unnecessary risk to try and take.

Laine is programmed to score (he realized mid-celebration that it was the wrong net). It was a ridiculously nice snipe.

Poor kid, for that nationally televised gaffe.

Poor Florida Panthers, on whom he will be potting a double Hatrik on to atone for his sins.

21 goals in 23 games now.

30 points to 1000

Ovechkin sitting with 13 points to 1000.  Who gets there first?

Hat tricks for both Joe Colborne and Richard Panik!  :o

And since his hat trick, Colborne has scored exactly...wait for it...0 goals! 4 points on the season. Surprising. I liked his skillset and thought he had turned the corner with Calgary.

Vinnie Viola was nominated as Secretary of the Army.  Can't run a hockey team but good for the President Elect's cabinet.

I think Laine has been spending too much time watching Matthews' catch and release video.

Laine really is a machine. He has Matthews beat on shot accuracy and power, and pretty much everyone else. Lost the hardest shot to Buff by 0.1mph (101.3 vs 101.2)
