2017-18 Toronto Maple Leafs - General Discussion

It's wonderful that you agree with me!

It's a little like how I've started agreeing with my father about how vegan pizza places are ruining our old neighbourhood. It's just easier.

Some thoughts from Bourne on Johnsson vs Komarov and hmm, Nylander at centre...

This is my way of keeping both Komarov and Johnsson:
Johnsson - Matthews - Kapanen
Marleau - Nylander - Hyman
Komarov - Kadri - Marner
JvR - Bozak - Brown

If we're talking crazy then I'd go:

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Marleau-Kadri-Marner
JVR-Bozak-Brown
Johnsson-Kapanen

Rielly-Hainsey
Gardiner-Zaitsev
Dermott-Polak
Carrick/Borgman

Do a rotating double shift of Matthews/Nylander/Kadri/Bozak/Marleau on the 4th line.

edit: whoops. This doesn't keep Komarov in the line-up, but I guess he could enter in at forward instead of the 7th defencemen. Give him a ton of PK minutes and defensive zone draws but still focus on the uber 4th line that nobody could stop.

Hey, I didn't know you work for the ad agency -- what's it like?  :P :P 8) 8) :o :o :P :P

I may not work for that ad agency, but my background is in advertising and I have worked in Canadian ad agencies, so, you know, I do have some insight here.
I used to work for Partners back in the early 80's we probably worked together way back when

So, you have the temerity to use actual experience to overrule my gut instincts, do you?  I know when I've been insulted!  I know when I've been insulted! *beats chest*

Uh, Nik ... it's time to level with you, son.  I *am* your father.  I've been posting here for years.  I'll meet you in the kitchen in 5 minutes to talk it all out.

I'm pretty sure that's not true as 90% of his posts would be about how the team hasn't been any good since they traded Dave Keon mixed in with complaining about the NDP.

I'm not anywhere near that old, dude.

Oh.  I guess I must be the father of somebody else, then.  I wonder who?

Not ringing a bell.  But then again, very little does these days.  :P

Building on his last acting role as a tree in his elementary school production of The Jungle Book, the spots were a chance for Marner to reveal more of his personality, something he's been more apt to share with the media lately as well.

Nice line, Kristen.

Just for the record, I hire ad agencies for our group of companies, and I can tell you that if I could get Mitch Marner in a bunch of commercials for $25K, then done deal.

Not a chance, Mr. Bustabusta

And Mitch Marner's agent doesn't get out of bed for a $25K deal, never mind Mitch Marner, given his take after agent and taxes.

I'd bet the number is more like $100K for the 3.

It's not worth much, but he's not doing it for chump change.

For a local ad campaign and a client without that much pull (I mean, it's not like Marner is a renowned superstar - very few people who aren't hockey fans know who he is)? I doubt it's anywhere near 6 figures.

This was Forbes' list of the highest paid players in 2017, including endorsements:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbadenhausen/2017/12/05/the-nhls-highest-paid-players-2017-18/#28b6d6ef2ac3

I'm not sure how credible the numbers are, but according to them guys like Kopitar, Benn, Weber, and Perry all earned between $100-150k total in endorsements. So while I don't have any background knowledge in marketing I'd be pretty surprised if Marner could pull that amount from just one ad campaign.

It's pretty much impossible for Florida to run the table.  Their schedule is:

Thurs, Sat, Mon, Tues, Thur, Sat, Sun

Good luck on that back to back Tuesday game playing Nashville....
