Since I was on the board for the GDT, thought I'd stop by here with a question.  What's the Leafs plans on fitting Marner's payday in under the cap.  Are they looking to move anyone this summer?    I would think that Marner & Point (Tampa) are offer sheet candidates.

I could see the Flyers trying to move Gostisbehere.....they need to tighten up the D, & also add a top 6 type forward.

They'll likely just go cheap on the bottom pair D and 4th line, and make it work. Although, you should really consider trading Gostisbehere for our Nikita Zaitsev... he'd be a huge upgrade for you guys. We'll take gritty as well if it will help with the money.
I don't know much about Zaitsev, I think they might look for a top 2 type to play with Provorov.  As for Gritty...he was accidental genius.

Gritty went from are you kidding me, it's stupid to awesome pretty fast. Someone knew what they were doing. Helps that Voracek looks like him too!

Andersen's week has brought his save % down to his career average of .918.  It's like he self corrected cause his average was too high this season.

According to the TSN panel (Craig Button), Andersen could use a ?mental rest?, which also translates to a physical rest.
I agree handily.  No playoff bound goaltender has played more games than Andersen already has this season.

Even though the Leafs can ill afford to ease up (unless they don?t care to really try for home-ice advantage), Sparks should be given more starting assignments in place of Freddy.

Ladies and gentlemen, presenting to you the NHL?s ?heavy hockey? teams (no, not all based on the number of hits a team dishes out):

They won't be able to re-sign Gardiner, for sure (which is why Muzzin was brought in.) They're probably going to lose one of Johnsson or Kapanen. And, they'll probably have to play me on defense.

The other option is to win the Stanley Cup, have Marleau retire, then trade his cap hit to Ottawa.

A Sportsnet reporter I've never heard of, and then quoted by Johnston, says that Petan will be signing a 2 year extension.

Yo how did Irfaan get the scoop?

Ah, Nic Petan is from BC, and Irfaan covers Vancouver for SportsNet.

Anyone catch Babcock throwing shade at Dubas in his interview today? Ouch.

And a potential Dubas riposte?

If there is a problem and you know the answer then you can fix it.
Guess according to our great coach they fixed it.
We'll see in the next few games.
Been a problem defensively on this team for 3-4 years. The last week or two have just been worse.
But I guess they fixed it today.
LOL what a joke.

?There?s other teams that have done a better job when different players are out than we have in keeping on going,? Mike Babcock said after practice on Monday, referencing the organization?s run of injuries on the blueline, which has taken out Gardiner, Dermott, Rosen and Borgman. ?That just tells you what state we?re at. You just gotta keep adding better players.?

It was a weird quote for two reasons. 1) Just the other day Babcock also said that they cannot use injuries as an excuse for their struggles. 2) I don't think it's really fair to say the organization lacks depth on defence. The Leafs are missing 2 of their 3 puck-moving defencemen. The Marlies are missing the top-2 candidates to replace a puck-moving defenceman on the Leafs. And the top-2 Marlies candidates after that are both in the early stages of their careers and the organization doesn't want to rush them in any way. So that's 6 of the top 7 puck-moving defencemen in the organization that aren't available to the Leafs right now.

edit: And I'd say if this happened earlier in the season, or if wins were a more pressing concern right now, then the team would probably have adjusted their plans for Sandin or Liljegren and brought one of them up. But as things stand they obviously think it's better to not rush them and just power through this last stretch before at least Dermott returns.

Sounds more like a frustrated coach trying to come up with various explanations of his team?s current situation.  Oh well.

I don't know, two years ago we had Marincin as a depth guy called into action versus WSH in the playoffs and he was awful. We're in the exact same boat 2 years later. Yes, we have prospects in the system but they take a lot of time to develop on the blueline. The Leafs have done absolutely nothing to improve their immediate defensive woes. Hainsey for Hunwick, Dermott for Polak...

:o

Even aside from the bolded, as much as I think Hainsey is overplayed he's an upgrade over Hunwick. They also you know acquired Muzzin. And brought in improved depth in the form of Rosen and Borgman, who again are both probably ahead of Marincin on the depth chart.
