2018 Toronto Blue Jays General Season Thread

Great thing about being in BC is the weekend 1EST games start here at 10AM.  Sports events are mostly over by 7PM leaving the rest of the evening to watch other stuff.

You know Osuna is done, right? Like, maybe never playing baseball again?

ah no, see Chapman
As a Mexican, Osuna will be denied entry to the USA for life if and when he is convicted of assault, thus ending his baseball career. And if you want to see what Rogers will do with him look no further than Greg Zaun. Osuna is toast.

I remain pretty skeptical that Osuna will receive the kind of sentence that would make entry into the US impossible. I wouldn't say it can't happen but I'll need to see it first before I think it's anything resembling a sure thing.

I also think it's a substantially different issue with Rogers. Not only is Zaun less valuable than Osuna, I don't see how Osuna would open them up to liability in the way that Zaun could/might.

That's not to say there won't be pressure on Rogers to get rid of Osuna, there will, but I don't think anything is written in stone.

Nobody cares about Zaun, that was an easy decision.  You're jumping to conclusions on Osuna without even knowing what happened.

He apparently caused very significant injuries to his girlfriend.

Yea I saw that report, an insider also released a picture of Osuna in a holding cell, police are investigating that leak

Chapman was never charged.

ok, Jose Reyes

Charges were dropped.

I'm not sure what the point is here Osuna has not been convicted of anything.  Move on...I'll talk baseball all day

The point is I wouldn't figure Osuna into the long term plans for the Blue Jays, given the severity of the reported injuries and the media attention it received.

Right.  It's conjecture nothing else.

My list was based on what we know right now which is he was charged with 1 count of assault, his court date set for June 18 and MLB has placed him on Administrative Leave which is not even considered discipline. One of the top closers in the game.

Matt Bush was able to come from spending some significant time behind bars and was a factor in the Rangers pen including time as closer and setup.

Osuna is very young I don't think you can completely give up on him and that's regardless of the outcome of the assault charge.

It's not conjecture that he was charged. If we are talking about future plans you have to consider the possibility that he will also be convicted.

The Jays just completed the sweep of Baltimore.  Impressive win today and the starting pitching is continuing to look very good lately.  Just five games below .500 now.  Hopefully they can continue the win streak against Tampa Bay.

... all without JD.

Rays are next, hoping for at least 2/3 if not a sweep, Rays are using relief pitchers to start games so we have a chance for another sweep.

Well, according to Blue Jays PR, AKA Shi Davidi, they are still going to blow up the team:

It's probably the right move.  Too bad.  Hopefully the pain won't last for too long.
