2020 HHOF Induction Thread

Anyways, all that said about the bad choices, hats off to Iginla. I probably said something like this when he retired but his play in the 2002 Gold Medal game remains one of the most impressive things I've ever seen. Every shift he looked both willing and capable of skating through a brick wall. The USA had nobody who could handle him.

Combine that with setting up Crosby's OT winner in 2010 and one of the more memorable Canadian internationals of all time.

Lowe getting in is in all ways the defence equivalent of Clark Gillies' admission.

If a guy has absolutely zero chance of consideration if he had played his career on literally any other team, he's not a Hall of Famer, full stop.

It's Lowe getting in ahead of Mogilny that kills me. At least Wilson was a very productive player in his career, and has some hardware to back up his case (it also makes Randy Carlyle the only eligible Norris winner not in the Hall, which I'm good with). Lowe sets a new standard for most ridiculous entry.

I know "guy who gets long-overdue HOF nod" can be a very heart-warming story sometimes, but unless there's a very good explanation for why they've been snubbed if you've been told "no" over 20 times (Wilson was at 23) it's probably a good sign that you're just not worthy of it. Both these guys got pushed over the hump because of the relationships they made in their post-hockey careers. I agree the Lowe nod is worse, but they're bad for the same reasons.

Maybe, though I?d argue Wilson probably deserved to be in well before this year, and the HHOF does have a bit of a history of being late to recognize some deserving entrants.

Do we think Fleury ever has a chance? He obviously had his issues with alcohol and so on when playing yet still put up a point per game depite being the smallest player out there as well.

And he explained the story behind those issues and demons very well after he retired along with taking action against the perpetrator.

I have a slight bias after his season playing in Belfast (which is comfortably the greatest season of hockey I've watched from an individual) but I thought his attempt at winning a contract and playing some pre-season with Calgary the following season was a nice bookend to his career.

I think he's got a chance. The problem is now that there's this huge glut of guys from the 90's who are all pretty comparable and none have gotten in because the selection committee is inducting anyone who spent 15 minutes on the 80's Oilers or who racked up numbers before Goalies learned how to skate.

So it's not "Was Fleury good enough" but more like is he better than Mogilny? Roenick? Tkachuk?

I don't think I take Fleury before Mogliny but I'd want him on my team before the latter two buffoons.

Those were just a couple of guys I picked at random of the semi-qualified candidates. Could easily have been Damphousse or Leclair or whoever.

Although, and I'm not sure if this is the implication here, but even if a lot of Fleury's off-ice issues are understandable I don't think he'd be a lot of people's choices to add to a team to lower the buffoonery.

Haha yes I guess so. I've just always liked Fleury more...but lack of buffoonery definitely isn't the reason why.

Even when he was playing in the UK he was right at the top of the buffoonery list. And it was great!

Related to this Fleury did an interview with BBC Sport Northern Ireland today.

Some footage from his debut which is my all time favourite game I?ve ever been to live. He scored with his second touch of his first shift, scored a hat trick, added 4 assists and started a brawl  Buffoonery on show.

Also impressed at his recall of one game in particular against Basingstoke.
