2020 Trade Deadline Activity

That Lou interview on TSN had me howling. He pretended to have audio issues when Duthie asked about Parise and if was close on any other deals today.  ;D ;D ;D

Oh he definitely cancelled the trade out of spite.

Good ol' cranky pants Lou!

So I?m looking at the Gustafsson deal and wondering why we couldn?t match that. Definitely help our D situation. Not going to be sellers at least do something.

Gustaffson is a lefty. The Leafs have Dermott, Muzzin and Sandin on the left side. Trading for him, using a 3rd the team can't really spare, and the only benefit being having to either bench one of those guys or have them play the wrong side wouldn't make sense.

So name me the 6 D men that played Saturday night. Then tell me which hand they are.
Not mistaken we had 4 lefties and 2 right hand.
Insert Gustafsson and remove Marincin and we look much better.
Plus Gustafsson has a great shot and PP specialist.
Not sure what he's like defensively but wouldn't have hurt us. I think would of made us a bit better.

From reading some of the posts on another site said it was an awesome deal from the Flames standpoint.
60 point guy not long ago.

Or bench Marincin, insert Liljegren, put Dermott back on his natural side and keep a third round pick.

Feels like that might be good information to have before you advocate for a defenseman.

Yes that to. Said all along team probably is lucky to make the post season and if they do don't think it will be for long so why not play Liljgren and get some valuable experience.
I don't get this team or Dubas. Seems fixated on certain individuals.

Oh and by the way Gustafsson plays both sides.

He's not a defensive stalwart but you think he's an improvement on Marincin?

I don't know. I've haven't watched him play enough games to have a solid opinion and I'm willing to bet you haven't either. I know he's never been used as a penalty killer which would be what Keefe would be asking of a Marincin replacement.

But, again, to make this a smart move he wouldn't have to be better than Marincin but Liljegren. Otherwise, make the change internally.

We?ve already been promised boosted ice time for Sandin and Liljegren the rest of this season. That?s who you?d be bumping off the lineup for random deadline acquisition.

Do you think there is a chance they were holding Liljegren out because he might have been a part of a trade that they were trying to piece together?  It make sense that they would move a forward, but perhaps to a team trying to rebuild, they would want someone who is younger along with a pick.

Honestly, no. More and more I'm convinced that not doing anything was a vote of no confidence in this group and any significant moves will be made in the off-season when they can make complete conclusions about this season.

So to expand on what I meant was something along the lines of move Barrie for a pick and a prospect, and then move that pick, prospect, and Liljgren out for someone like Dumba.

The talk around Barrie was apparently pretty heavy Saturday and yesterday.  I think there was some fire there.

As you say though, I could also see them looking at the loss on Saturday night and taking a step back and saying that as constructed right now, the team really doesn't have a chance of competing, so play out the season and then reassess in the summer when there are some more options available to them.
