Sort of weirdly the one reason I could come up with to trade Barrie is to give the players the "You're not good enough" kick in the pants but that strikes me as a very difficult move for Shanahan to sell to the board.

It's entirely possible they just ran out of time to make the details work, but the idea of Lou nixing this trade just because it leaked (which is something people have often said Lou would do) is hilarious.

Feels like it's a cap thing. They probably had to choose between a defenseman like Skjei or Vatanen and a goalie and their goalie injuries may be less serious.
