Yeah. That's a great trade for the Rangers, though. With that contract, unless NYR are retaining a big chunk of cap, there's no way he should have returned a 1st round pick.

I was looking up his stats and yeah they don't really come out looking super flattering. But New York also only just signed him to that deal like a year and a half ago so it's weird that they would be so eager to dump him.

It's also funny that I just said Carolina always kills trades and then they made this one. I've never been a big Vatanen fan either.

Nope. Most of the moves were for pieces the Leafs didn't near, or wouldn't have been upgrades on what they have. Trochek would have been a nice add, but not sure the Leafs could afford that one.
