2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

I'm genuinely not sure there's a Leafs website worse than EIL.
It's definitely the worst site. From writers to posters. I like stirring it up there when I'm bored lol.

Dusty is the former LA goalie coach that helped Campbell get his career back on track.

Edit: he probably wants to lock or delete his Twitter though

Twitter is flaming the Leafs for this hire and you mentioned it as well. What?s the story?

Uh his likes seem to suggest he?d prefer to be on Parler, i.e. anti vaccination, pro-insurrection and all that entails

Of course these are his Twitter likes, and not necessarily what he has said/done. They do run counter to the publicly supported endeavours the Leafs espouse (BLM, Pride, vaccinations, etc).

Thanks?.not sure Leafs need this distraction.

A) Marlies hiring team didn?t vet social media
B) Marlies hiring team vetted social media and went ahead anyway

Firing this announcement off in the doldrums of summer when the insiders are offline, Sunday afternoon, suggests B.

Twitter never sleeps.

I can't imagine Shanahan and Dubas are fine with this Imoo hiring, and honestly it's most likely Laurence Gillman's call as he would have the ultimate say on a Marlies coach, but man oh man, do they not bother vetting his social media beforehand?  I expect him to be fired today (Imoo not Gillman)

Make vaccination mandatory to take the job and see what happens...

I'm laughing, but I'm also sad that this is a legitimate and necessary people filter in selection.

Our health & safety committee at work is also trying to find out if workplaces in Ontario can legally make this a requirement (for offices) and enforce it.

Gilman is the Sr. VP of the Marlies; Ryan Hardy, recently hired, is the GM of the Marlies, who would likely have been the one making this final decision

On his resume, and connections-wise, Imoo checks a lot of boxes on the positive for hockey ops, and if he's not outwardly vocal about his conspiracy theories or extreme (but now nominally normalized beliefs), it's a missable detail if you're just asking the hockey players he worked with or the other coaches in the clubhouse. Most of hockey leans in that direction already, so the extremism is not so obvious. Because he's a known entity to Jack Campbell and Michael Hutchinson, I surmise the hiring and vetting process was less thorough than with an open job posting.

Since I'm a cynic about all this, the only thing I expect to come of this is that new Marlies/Leafs hires will have their socials scrubbed and blipped out before announcements are made.

Agree that they probably didn't vet him as much as an unknown hire given the relationship to Campbell but I'm not a cynic and I think going forward they'll make sure to do this 100% for any new hire.  Trying to "scrub" someone's past before making an announcement won't work because there's always someone that has a history/screengrab of anything on the Internet.  I have to believe MLSE will learn from this going forward if they want to be seen as a leader for equal rights.

Well that's a relief. I was worried they might not make a decision until/unless the media started picking this up (which didn't seem super likely).

Maybe it's just my wishful thinking, but I think them doing this with relatively little pressure (only a pretty niche segment of Online Leafs Fans really knew about this problem) leads me more to believe the organization didn't really know much about this prior to the hire.

I agree. I think whoever hired him might have talked to Jack, or even the Kings and thought all is good. Looks like it wasn't and the big boss stepped in an eliminated the problem.
