2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

So how does that make sense? The Leafs think a 6 pm start will help them out so the NHL schedules a game early for them?

That doesn't pass the sniff test.

The team/arena management get some say in the scheduling - especially when it comes to puck drop on non-Saturday and non-special event games.

I?m all for it. Makes it slightly more palatable for all the Ireland/UK viewers like me ;D

Oh for sure, I don't doubt that. Obviously, the Sharks would have to agree as well. So there must be some benefit to them. Maybe larger eastern market exposure?

Mrazek is out on the ice doing drills so that's pretty encouraging that he won't be out too much longer.

I'm pretty sure they said he'd be joining the team for the roadtrip.

Yes. Not necessarily to play, but to bond with the teammates (first big road trip with a new group) after the Halloween party Marner hosted and get some reps in with Steve Briere who is travelling with the team as well.

Figures that Marner would be hosting a Halloween party instead of working on his shot.

Like his handwritten notes to children, I safely assume it?s his fianc?e doing the hosting.

Man, if the Leafs are even around the league average here, we're having some wildly different discussions. Hopefully, it's just a combination of bad luck and getting more familiar with new teammates and new systems (especially on special teams). If/when this evens out, it's could very easily do so in a big way. Could see a few really lopsided results in the Leafs' favour.

It doesn't seem to have affected the Leafs in a major way yet but the clown show with the Rogers board sure seems like it could be a breeding ground for some contention depending on how things go. Apparently the now deposed Chairman of the board wanted to spin off the 37.5% of MLSE they owned with the Jays into a separate company?

Just posted something in the Raptors thread.  The infighting is getting pretty nasty and it doesn't seem like he's super keen on the sports aspects of Rogers ownership.

The thing is, until now I'd probably have said the MLSE ownership structure was a net positive for the teams involved and I think the fact that even Rogers being a bonehead about Ujiri didn't ultimately wreck the deal Ujiri signed shows that there's some truth to that. If Rogers Jr. can get deep-sixed and brighter heads prevail during the board shake-up, I'd be all for Rogers selling a % of the Jays to MLSE.

Gist here: Keefe is as inflexible in his own way as Babcock.

I'm not going to try to form PAK or anything but so far Keefe and his lieutenants have been underwhelming.
