That's pretty solid for Giroux.  He's not a PPG player anymore but he brings a veteran presence to their lockerroom and they aren't near the cap at this point in time to be worried about the added cap hit.

Starting to think that being the GM of the Lightning and Team Canada is just a really, really easy job. Because Yzerman in Detroit isn't giving off those same vibes.

I've lost my ability to discern what's a good deal and not a good deal with some of these guys.

The only really questionable deal that been signed so far is Trochek, and that's mostly a term issue rather than a cap hit value.

EDIT: Campbell, too, for largely the same reasons.

All the "big" UFA ones seem at least a little high to me: Trocheck, Copp, Campbell, Leddy, Manson. That's pretty standard for July 1st, I mean, 13th, though.

We're either at the point in my age or diminishing NHL-fandom that guys are being signed to significant deals and I do not know who they are. If you gave me 10 guesses at this guy's first name I wouldn't get it. Ian? Steve?

Yeah. I'm trying to look at things in that context. They all signed with a UFA premium on their deals, but they're not way out of line in terms of AAV.

In that case I'd still say that Trocheck, Copp, and Leddy's deals are all pretty wild. Still early though.

Trocheck, for sure. 7 years is something. Wouldn't have gone longer than 4 there. Copp and Leddy are a year too long each.

2x$1.8mil. Probably a coin flip on if I'd have preferred that to Samsonov's deal. I know Comrie doesn't have much of a track record but I actually figured someone would have given him like $2.5mil just because there weren't many options.
