It especially feels like a move that makes way more sense to try and make in the offseason. Would have been many more suitors without a deadline ticking away.

Ownership dying to get out of paying for someone IR? This just seems nuts.
 
I'm unsure if I should applaud the Golden Knights for their creativity in circumventing the cap, or be pissed at the league for constantly allowing it.  Because I'm sure if there were some other teams *cough*Leafs*cough* who continually pulled this off, the league would step in and squash it.

Leafs are doing it as well and have done it often. They just haven't won. The phrase Robidas Island started with the Leafs. Rules are the rules and no one is breaking any. I remember reading/hearing that while some complained about it, the owners don't want to change the system.
I think it's great and I love that Vegas is going for it. There's no guarantees they'll even make the playoffs right now so we'll see.
Vegas does prove one thing, there are no excuses for not getting the player you want/need.

There's a difference between just burying guys in the minors, and stashing guys on LTIR for the regular season and having them miraculously return for Game 1 of the playoffs, no?

Like I suggested, I applaud the Golden Knights for exposing the rule and using it to their advantage.  And I usually don't mind it.  It just intrigues me that Vegas is the one primarily doing it.  Although on the flipside when I see a garbage franchise like Arizona take on dead contracts to artificially inflate their cap, it rankles me too.

Maybe what I'm trying to get to, long story short, is that I despise the cap system.

Vegas isn't the only team doing it. T Bay did it and that was more blatant. Do you think Vegas, who isn't in a guaranteed playoff spot are just sitting Stone out so they can add more players? They're a lot better with Stone in the lineup. And Hertl according to MJ could be ready before season's end and they could fit him in under the cap.
Now using dead contracts to get to the floor is a different animal.
 
Vegas is incredible, they will figure it out later, but today they?re $20M over cap come playoff time and are Stanley Cup favourites. Figuring out next year?s cap is a problem for another day.

Tampa trades away McDonagh when they shouldn't have (betting he would fall off in his 33 and 34-year old seasons, he didn't) and then reacquire him when they shouldn't (more likely to fall off in his 35 and 36-year old seasons, and they're in more of a cap bind with Stamkos). Alrighty.

Pretty tidy bit of business from Nashville though, but it also leaves a big hole in their defence.
