2022-23 NHL Thread

I watched a bit of Flames-Jets last night and I'm still stunned after 10 years that the Jets are still wearing those uniforms. They're by far the most non-descript, generic looking uniforms in the league. It looked like the Flames were playing a Create-A-Team franchise in NHL '17

I am more concerned about the Bruins (when returned to health) than the Panthers, who binged on OT coin tosses last season (Huberdeau time) and then moved on from the coach that managed their rush system as well as their top D puckmover (Weegar).

Oh dear

My Twitter is two things: hockey and learning science stuff for fun.
There was a crossover event last night:

Can someone explain why this is not a suspension? Chabot was in a helpless position with no hope of defending himself. Konecny is an idiot

Only thing I can think of ...Look at his feet. Chabot was going around the net and decided he'd turn back towards Konecny. A lot of times when the player puts himself at risk, it isn't called. Doesn't make it right or justified and  probably should've been a penalty.

I looked at that. The play is so bang-bang that Konecny was taking him out from behind regardless of the direction Chabot decided to go.

True but if Chabot keeps going around the net, it's probably not on the numbers.

Konecny saw his numbers the entire time. Bad hit. But I've always said the NHL seems to basically spin a wheel when it comes to whether boarding is a 2 minute minor, 5 minute major, and/or a suspension. So I have no idea which one of those it should have been but it's wild that went completely unpenalized.

It's funny that hitting from behind use to be one of the worse plays in hockey but now it's the check to the head. In this case you have a hit from behind that caused a severe head injury. I agree with you that the NHL is so inconsistent that determining what should be called is a crapshoot at best.

I do wonder what a hard ass like Torts could do with the talent on this team for, let's say, a 3-year period before his act wears thin.

Ugh, I already find that act tiring. A good coach should be able to motivate without being an angry, whiny, loud-mouth.

Quite frankly I think the Leafs probably win each of their previous 3 playoff series' if Keefe were a little more open to making adjustments and combating the different tactics and playing styles of his opponent. This living and dying by unlimited 1st line minutes and spreading the team thin by loading up said line when that doesn't work just, well, doesn't work.

These are all good points, but it's great having a jacka$$ in the game like Tortorella
