2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Well thank you for the discussion. It was insightful.
If you can't see that Mikheyev is better then Kerfoot, no stat will change you mind. I'm too old and too tired to try to post up stats that show just how valuable a guy like Mikheyev is because the chances of me convincing you of something different then what you can't see or think would clearly be a waste of time.

There seems to be a bit of pent up anger in here. I will note that Mikheyev's Corsi stats are better than Kerfoot's and they seem to both be around 0.5 ppg.

Mikheyev is a better skater. Kerfoot is more versatile. Other than that, there?s not much separating the two.

That?s how I see it. I was genuinely asking for further details.

Here?s a fun idea: Sign Gaudreau for $10M/year. Trade Marner for cheap young players and futures. Save ~$1M bucks on the cap.

The main downside would be Matthews getting pissed you dealt his pal.

Eeek, I just read MLHS's goalie trade possibilities.  As you'd expect, a million question marks but what got my attention is their discussion of the cost of unloading Mrazek onto the Ducks (or anyone).  Picks, prospects, $$$ ... all to fix a free-agent signing.

I think they have to keep him and hope he delivers the form that Dubas apparently thought was there when he signed him.  It's not an ideal bet but it's probably as good as any of the alternatives.

I'll just spitball here and predict we see the return of Optimus as part of a tandem.  And pray for Kallgren or Woll or somebody else to be ready to cover for Mrazek if need be (perhaps read: when need be).

And you know grossly overpaying Giroux

I basically see the potential options I'd have interest in sorted into these 2 groups...

1A: Campbell, Varlamov, Fleury, Gibson, Kuemper

1B: Mrazek, Reimer, Stolarz, Comrie, Blackwood, Georgiev, Murray (if bought out), Brossoit

Any one of the 1A's paired with one of the 1B's would be fine by me. All comes down to what makes the most sense cap/acquisition cost/value wise.

Yes I think I could cope with Mrazek if we had a Fleury.

I?d like a Campbell and Reimer. Nicest goalie duo in history ;D

Word is they?ve spoken to a variety of potential replacements, including those currently employed by other NHL organizations.

Sources say Curtis Sanford made a particularly strong impression.

He?s expected to join the Leafs organization after working the past five years for the Vancouver Canucks in goalie development.

Here's a really good write-up of Curtis Sanford, and the influence Ian Clark has had on his playing and coaching career.

Edit: and before anyone asks, his Twitter likes are generally very anodyne, other than some potentially strong feelings about the Oscars slap  ;D

Edit: some Vancouver reporter sort of confirmation that Curtis Sanford is moving on, at least.

Lou reclaims another one of his former hires

I feel like "expert" in European free agent signings doesn't exactly mean as much as it did 10-20 years ago. It's not as if guys like Mikheyev, Lehtonen, Barabanov were all plucked from obscurity.
