2022 Trades

Reported expectation: Boston extends newly acquired Lindholm to 8x6.5M AAV

Lindholm looks like he's not quite the same defenceman he was 2-4 years ago but going to Boston could turn things around, so that's a pretty solid contract especially considering some of the ones we saw given out over the past year.

Similar to the Hertl deal, these are nice enough gets in isolation. But given where the teams are in their contention windows, their roster youth, and prospect pipelines?

I don't really think those are the same. I mean San Jose has been a bottom-10 team in the league for 3 straight seasons now while Boston has still generally been seen as a contender (maybe tier-2 contender though). San Jose's aging stars are also showing signs of decline and on bloated contracts while Boston's are quite literally the opposite. They also have two young stars at defence and goaltending (McAvoy and Swayman) while San Jose doesn't. Like sure 8 years is a long time and Boston probably starts to decline later in that deal but really as long as Bergeron is still playing their contention window is open.

Yeah that's weird. Would be smart if Ottawa immediately retained 50% and flipped him for more, since Vancouver wouldn't have been capable for doing that with their cap space. I guess they could even just keep and then flip him at next years deadline too.

edit: Ottawa GAVE UP a 3rd rounder for him? lmao

C?mon guys, let other teams play
I actually like this deal for the Sens. Like Mathieu Joseph a lot plus a 4th...fair deal.

Curious to see if Colorado makes a move today after missing out on Giroux. Manson is an ok add but they've watched all the other top contenders make bigger moves. The Avs do appear to have an easier path to the Finals in the West but they're likely going to lose a key player or two this offseason so this presents a massive opportunity for them. Kadri, Burakovsky, Nichushkin, and Kuemper are all UFAs. I imagine they'll get Kuemper back and at least one of those forwards but losing someone like Kadri, especially with the season he's having, would leave them with a pretty big hole next season.

Joseph is like a slightly less impactful, slightly smaller Paul. Weird trade.
Joseph is Arb eligible so chances are T Bay won't qualify him so he's probably walking.

Paul is a UFA who is probably walking. No advantage for Tampa there.

Yeah I don't get it unless Tampa knew Joseph wanted more money than they could pay and figured maybe Paul would take a bigger discount (although based on what he was looking for from Ottawa probably not).

I think they plan on not signing either but Paul as an upgrade over Joseph.
