Who?

23 y.o. 6?6? left hand defensive dman coming out of Boston University (signing rights)

https://www.canescountry.com/2022/9/6/23335296/carolina-hurricanes-nhl-prospects-overview-scouting-defensemen
Most players that size are poor skaters, but Webber?s skating is actually quite good. He possesses good mechanics and a clean, quick stride that allows him to cover large distances quickly. He?s a great defensive defender because of his skating and reach, too. Pretty much any area in the defensive zone is a part of Webber?s coverage because if he can?t reach it with his stick, he?s able to get there in a stride or two, rendering a play null. Webber can anticipate where a play is going and react accordingly, shutting down a lot of offense in the process.
Shea Webber clone right?
Lets hope so. Hope he can BBQ some offence in the future.

This feels unlikely but if Dubas is out collecting former Leafs I wonder if a Kampf for Lars Eller swap could be worked out.

Dubas probably thinks Kampf is getting paid too much lol.

Makes sense. If the Leafs acquired someone else right now they'd have to send another player down (even besides Lagesson). So reassigning Knies, who of course doesn't need waivers, and then calling him back up tomorrow when the roster limit goes away is better than being forced to waive a Gregor or Holmberg.

If they acquired someone else they'd just send Knies down, no? This is about making Knies eligible for the Marlies playoff run.

Well this to me makes it seem like they are planning to acquire someone before 3pm, which yes would then trigger the Knies move. Although even if nobody is added there's still value in being able to send Knies to the Marlies temporarily post deadline. As unlikely as it might be if there's a run of freak injuries on D and F they could send him down to bring up a replacement there. Or if the Leafs don't end up waiving anyone beyond Lagesson then due to cap restraints Robertson might be stuck in the AHL post-deadline and maybe Knies and him get swapped like once every couple weeks to get Nicky a game.

All in all, like CJ says I think it's just about roster flexibility even if it never needs to happen. It does make him eligible for the AHL playoffs, but I really don't expect him to play there even if the Leafs do get knocked out early.

C'mon Anaheim, why?

Yeah that makes no sense, Anaheim isn't doing anything this year.

Sounds like they're trying to do something but I really don't see it happening. I think the Leafs end today with a thud. Unfortunately I'm not too jazzed about this roster for playoff success... Just don't have the right kind of horses I don't think.

With a healthy D (Timmins is basically healthy, and Gio is skating so his return is also on the horizon) Lagesson would be the #10 D in the organization. So obviously not the end of the world, but the dude was a really good soldier for the team this season so unfortunate to see him go.

They might just need bodies.

They already have 7 defencemen without Lagesson, not like they need to load up depth for a playoff run lol.

Not particularly enthused by much of what's being moved/supposedly available, either.

Also, big moves at the deadline jsut rarely pan out. Standing pat/only making the types of smaller moves the Leafs have already made is usually the best course of action. Not as exciting, but smarter asset management.

Could easily be moving someone else out. Could be an injury they haven't announced or they want to send a younger guy to their AHL team. Lots of reasons to put in a claim for a depth type guy.

Yup.  The panel with Colaiacovo and Corrado were all praising the Canadian teams trading their 1st round picks "going for it".  Last I checked all 3 of those teams are in the west, they can't all win the Cup,  in fact they might all 3 not go anywhere in the playoffs, so is trading your first a great move if they all get bounced in rounds 1-2?
