2023 Blue Jays thread

Classic over-managing. Just terrible.

Baseball analytics are a joke. Half the time it backfires so what's the f'n point. Schneider should have been replaced mid season.

All season long...frustrating team...playoffs remind me of Leafs playoffs.  Just can't do the thing.

Good riddance to this miserable offense.  Very fitting to have Varsho strike out on three non competitive swings at the end as that's the big trade to reshape the position players

You blink and just like that the season is over.  Horrible offensive showing, whereas the pitching was top-notch all year.

I'm all for getting rid of Atkins and Schneider.  Atkins has been 8 years now and not much to show for a team that has had high aspirations.

We're blessed as Toronto sports fans.

There's something missing on this team. I was hoping Springer would bring that calming present when things aren't going the way they'd like. But he's not the answer. This team needs a veteran leader to coral/motivate the troops when they have games like they did yesterday or the day before. You could just see the defeat in the faces of Bo Bichette and Guerrero. They had lost the game before it even started. And as soon as they failed to score runs early, they shutdown.

Note: John Schneider's decision to pull Berrios in the bottom of the 4th is an absolute headscratcher. His line up decisions are an absolute headscratcher. Keeping Belt in after going 0-4 in game one with two strikeouts was a glaring mistake. It only looked worse when Belt then went 0-4 in game two with 3 more strikeouts. Keeping Biggio in for the 8th? Keeping Varsho in for the 9th? Several opportunities to try and kickstart the offense. The only thing that occurred was Merrifield coming into run in the 9th. They had Cam Eden on the roster just for stealing bases. He should have went in at first base for Espinal. Merrifield should have been utilized as a bat off the bench. Heck, even Davis Schneider should have been given an opportunity to change the flow of the game.

Everything I'm reading seems to suggest this was a pre-planned move agreed with the wider management group based on data.

Now, I'm all for using data to help. But you know, I was watching the game and could see how Berios looked as well...

Yea, I mean I always cringe when I hear the term "Analytics" negatively thrown around and mocked by people who don't understand that it's basically just the idea of looking at more, in-depth information. You should always want to have more than less information. It's the interpretation and utilization of that information that's the problem. If the data says that the more a pitcher goes through a lineup the more susceptible he becomes, that is good information to have and you can act on it accordingly. It absolutely never means take out a pitcher who is dialed in and mowing through batters after 47 pitchers because its the 2nd time facing a lefthanded batter.

The rotation of pitchers wasn't the problem.  The Blue Jays didn't hit the baseball enough times, so they lost.

If one of your starters is only reliable the first time through the line up, then you actually don't have a "starter".

Exactly, I'm not sure how this plan makes any sense. And why was this never once utilized in the regular season or during another "must win game"? Why were the starters sometimes pulled early and sometimes left in much longer? And how could a team possibly make it to the World Series if you were to use your bullpen every time this situation arose? The arms would all be dead! And you'd also have a much worse potential matchup later in the games with an overused reliever. I'm so confused.
