2024-25 General Trades and Signings

It's the usual suspects in 1-4 in the Atlantic with Toronto/Florida/Boston/Tampa....and here comes Ottawa in 5th and currently in WC2.

They are, but it's a bit of a mirage. In their recent hot stretch (7-2-1 in their last 10), they've only beaten two teams that aren't currently in the bottom 10 in the league - and one of them (Calgary) could easily find themselves there, soon.

Come on? Mickey mouse league of professional sports.
What do you mean? Why does this make the league "mickey mouse".

Should they have a helicopter idling at the arena just in case their goalie gets hurt, and traffic is bad, and the EBUG can't get to the rink in time for the start of the game? Have you ever seen the traffic situation around that arena right before the start of a Sens game? It's a disaster. I don't know how any other league would handle a similar situation differently (completely ignoring the fact that the NHL is the only sport that I can think of that would need an emergency player to be brought in).

Almost like any other arena and I would say that's pretty sad but yeah traffic to Ottawa's rink is a legit disaster before and after games.
Yup, and the location is awful - which why they fought so hard to get approval to build a new one in Lebreton. It's less about it being a Mickey Mouse league and more about Ottawa having very much been a Mickey Mouse organization.

That reminds me of our weird EBUG situation a few years back

I'm not sure about this one. Carrier has had upper body problems (shoulder?) since 2021. On the IR now.
Barron is only 23. Decent size, skills and draft pedigree. Might/might not make top 4.
Short term MTL probably wins. Longer term probably favors Nashville.

I expect Treliving is sniffing around these teams like Nashville, Rangers & Sabres looking for some help

I don’t know if either team wins this one. Carrier hasn’t been great when he’s played this year, is older, smaller, and more expensive. He’s more of a mediocre ‘right now’ add for a team that doesn’t really need that. Not sure he really even moves the needle for Montreal. Also a bit of a cap dump for Nashville, and in a couple years, the Habs likely move him at the deadline for similar puck value they’d get for Barron now.

Barron has a higher ceiling, but seems less and less likely to reach it. He doesn’t move the needle for Nashville now and there’s a very good chance he never does.

Very neutral trade in the end.

Carrier was about to be traded last deadline and Trotz held onto him, extended him to make him expensive, and now tanked his value enough to trade him for an AHLer.

Last year, at the deadline, the Preds were pretty solidly in a playoff spot. They weren't sellers. Teams wanted Carrier, but that doesn't mean he was about to be traded.

He was a UFA who re-signed with his team. Predators were buyers at the March trade deadline.
There may have been media rumors due to his UFA status
