McCabe-Tanev seems like a solid pair
OEL & one of Benoit, Timmons, Myers, Rifai or a pickup or Hakanpaa for the 3rd pairing
which would leave
Rielly-Hakanpaa or another to make the other 1/2 or 3/4 pairing
Whatever.
This Hakanpaa injury has them in some limbo.
Though it seems crazy after such an injury that one would have him in the top 4.
I think they need to know how this Hakanpaa injury is going to shake out so they can get on with making roster decisions.

Similar to the Hakanpaa injury, the prognosis for Matthews has a similar effect on what they're going to do at center this year and beyond.
Where is Tavares going to play if they re-sign him? He is still a very good center.
Where will Minten slot in next season?
If they trade for someone who is more than a rental, how are they going to fit in this year and beyond?
Like Hakanpaa, there are so many unknowns, it has to be difficult to plan their next steps until they have more clarity on these injuries.

Gonna be a lot of butt clenching when the pucks in the Leafs zone over the next few weeks.
Maybe try Tanev in net.
Well that was certainly the plan. Wouldn't be shocked if Hildeby stuck around long enough to get the next back-up start at this point.

I'd guess for about 5 games with Murray and then they'll re-evaluate where Murray is at.

The schedule is still pretty compressed right now.
The Leafs have ANOTHER stretch of 4 games in 6 days (5 in 8) starting tomorrow. Including playing another back to back on Saturday/Sunday against a rested Flyers team that hasn't played in 3 days.
I'm fine with giving Murray another game or two but if he keeps letting in 3+ goals where two of them are questionable, I think I'd rather see Hildeby develop if we aren't getting a goaltender who can stop the routine saves.
