2025 Blue Jays

Yes. It’s a subjective opinion. I don’t see why that would bother you or anyone else.

I’m basing this on the general sentiment if fan apathy towards Bichette. Talk radio basically completely dismissed him since last year. There’s been no talk of ‘talks’ of an extension. Does that mean they aren’t happening? Of course not, but no one seems to give a shit. People were going apeshit when Vladdy’s pretend deadline came and went, and not a peep about Bichette. And again, as mentioned, does he even want to stay here? Who knows.

I’m not sure what I did wrong here. Nothing of what I said is fact, it’s just a feeling based on what I’ve seen around me. I have no insider knowledge, I’m just sharing my feelings.

All I’m trying to say is that if the jays are not actively trying to sign him, they are being idiotic. And fans who don’t care if he signs or not, will look back on this as one who got away.

Honestly I appreciate the conversation but I think my intentions might be a bit misconstrued here.

Oh I'm not bothered, I guess I was just confused, because you were making a couple of blanket statements that weren't really backed up by anything. I'm not in tune with general sentiments as I never listen to talk radio or media "analysis" of any sort anymore, so maybe that is exacerbating my confusion.

It will be interesting to see what Bichette ultimately signs for. I imagine it won't come close to Vlad's 550M joke deal, and I'm sure it will immediately be apparent that Bichette would have been the better guy/deal to lock up.

I’d agree, they should have been going all out to sign both and build around them for X years.

I also agree the cost of Vlad currently is wrong. And I also think Bo will be a more valuable all round player for longer.

So basically the issue is not having got the deals done for both before now when they were more affordable or it got to this state.

So it’s the old story of Toronto front office ballsing up their asset/player management really.

When Bo said he wouldn't mind a trade last year, I massively tuned out the Jays and figured this run of "competitiveness" was over. I still assume that, especially with Vlad not signed. I hate team Shatkins.

We’re on the same page, I was just coming from a general sentiment pov. I’m with you in the Guerrero value.

I’ve always felt that Bichette was the more talented and better long term bet. Obviously I’d be happy to have both here, but there seems to be this casual indifference towards Bichette that confuses me.

The lack of power is still a bit of a concern. If Vladdy wanted the Jays to up their offer it would have helped him to get off to a hot start.

Juan Soto - 36.7 WAR
Vlad Jr - 21.6 WAR

He got 2/3 of the salary Soto received. It's an overpay for what he produced but if Santander is the best free agent the team can sign you can't let Vlad walk

Good or bad?

Good. Vlad has shown he can have the best bat in baseball any given year, and is possibly a top five-ten hitter in all of baseball. Obviously the contract is several years too long but works out to $35.7m/year, about $8m above his current salary, so it shouldn't restrict the Jays too much going forward. Not too unreasonable considering the current market for some MLB contracts.

Personally I'm pretty happy with the deal. I think if the Jays get this done 2 years ago they are maybe 10-years/$350m so the average was about as much I was hoping for/expecting.

Vladdy chose the Jays when he first signed as a 16-year old, he could have signed with anyone. He's Canadian, born in Montreal. He's choosing to stay with the Jays for his entire career. I'm ok with him being rewarded for that. It was very possible Vlad would have received $500m+ offers in free agency. I think this is all good. Now do Bo!

I think the part that is impressive about the deal is no opt outs. But whatever, there’s no salary cap, and losing him for nothing would have been colossally stupid.
