I'm on this boat. I understand the cap hit is a touch high, but he's still an extremely talented offensive defenseman. Rielly, Raddysh, OEL make for a very mobile offensive backend.

I also believe that as much as I'd like him to stay, he's probably a gonner.

He's a great 3-5 guy and with cap not currently being an issue I want him back. Only trade him if we can get better.

Benoit has now been moved out, which leaves Carlo & Rielly as the two worst defenders (at defending) on the team.

Otherwise, like everyone else here, I can't think of any good reason that explains why they'd want to do this.

If Carlo is the worst defender and has no offence to speak of then what's keeping him in the NHL? He was a +4 on a garbage team last season. To take it into context, Knies was -30.

I hate the trade as much as anyone, but he's perfectly serviceable as a lower pairing defenceman.

Agree. To be a + player on that team and not put up points is pretty darn good. I don't mind Carlo as a 5/6 guy.
