3 Phoenix Coyotes vs 6 Chicago Blackhawks

I've read through that Burke write up a couple times and while I don't agree with everything he said I also don't see it as idiotic.

Burke pointed out that parity and the natural rivalries between teams is a factor to the increase of bad behaviour.

The part about "parity" is so true.  Not to say that all teams in every series is evenly matched, but, parity does play a role here, as do "natural rivalries", in a sense.  It's still no excuse for players taking runs at each other's heads or with willfully dirty plays that do nothing but belittle the game of hockey.

I do love the silly fines.  Shea Weber gets $2500 for smashing Zetterberg's face into the glass...but it's ok, because now he has to be on his best behaviour or Shanahan will wag his finger at him.

Joel Quennville gets fined $10,000 for calling the refs incompetent after they neglect to watch the game when Hossa gets his head taken off.

He didn't smash his face into the glass, it was his visor, and Zet gave him a knee and hit him high in the back with the weight of his body behind him putting his face into the glass before that, Weber doesn't wear a visor. The caption I had in my head watching that was something like 'you like that visor boy'... ( yeah, in my best Don Cherry  :P )

I'm not saying it's right and I don't like it but I can certainly understand why he was pissed about it. If he'd been given a game or three for it I would have understood and they probably should have given what followed in other games after that.

You probably already know this, but 2500 is the maximum allowable fine to a player per the CBA.

Well aware.  Just funny how the maximum limit is so low for the players but is significantly higher for the coaches.  I really think it would be a far better deterrent if it was a proportion of salary kind of fining system instead of a straight "piss in the bucket" kind of thing.

No coach's union.

Coyotes took a 3 games to 1 series lead as Mikkel Boedker scored in OT to give Phoenix a 3-2 victory.  It was the second straight OT goal for Boedker, in the second straight OT game. Game #5 is Saturday in Phoenix as the 'Hawks attempt to stave off elimination. Good luck to Chicago.

That's honestly hilarious. It won't mean anything if Shanahan doesn't keep this up though. Torres is an easy guy to suspend, but I don't think his past warrants an extra 20-23 games that he's getting if a star with no past makes that same hit. If this is the start of harsher suspensions in general, great. But I think this is just Shanahan taking an opportunity to take some heat of the NHL in a situation where nobody but Torres will care.

25 games. Jokes. My god this really has all gone to clown town.

edit: by jokes I mean him coming down this hard on Torres is good but the fact the previous suspensions are so lame compared to this is the funny part.

Holy cow. I figured no more than 10 games. 25? Wow.

I guess this sends a strong message to guys who have made a career out of intending to injure other players.

Matt Cooke has shown there is hope for rehabilitation. We will see what this means for the rest of the league and future suspensions.

Wow.
