A thread speculating about possible lines? Already?!

So Frattin IS subject to waivers after 13 more games? - and busta, didn't know that about Hamilton. Thanks.

There is a clause that says
"A Player 25 years old or older who plays in one (1) or more Professional Games in any season shall be exempt from Regular Waivers and Re-Entry Waivers for the remainder of that season."
Frattin turned 25 last January. But I think that's superseded by when Frattin signed his contract.

Clarke MacArthur ? believed to be suffering from a lacerated finger ? did not skate Monday as the Toronto Maple Leafs resumed practising after taking Sunday off.

....

James van Riemsdyk took MacArthur?s spot on the top line with Tyler Bozak and Phil Kessel as the Leafs prepared for Tuesday night?s game in Buffalo.

Jay McClement took over second-line duties with Mikhail Grabovski and Nikolai Kulemin.

The only line that remained in tact was the third line, centred by Nazem Kadri, with Matt Frattin and Leo Komarov.

I understand they want McClement with Grabo and Kooly because they are trying to use that line as a shutdown line, but I wonder if McClements lack of hands will gimp them somewhat..

I wonder if he's just a place holder until tomorrow's game or they can firm up MacArthur's status

I am interested to see how JVR does playing with Kessel, hopefully that can help ignite Kessel and he can pot a couple goals... if that is indeed the line used for tomorrows game, need to set the PVR to record it as I leave work at 9am and won't make it to Wpg til 6pm!

Globe: Injured MacArthur misses Maple Leafs practice
Leaf coach Randy Carlyle said on Monday after practice that MacArthur will accompany the team to Buffalo and probably take part in the pregame skate. But it is unlikely he?ll play.

?Again, it?s in a vulnerable spot,? Carlyle said. ?You have to use it. We?re more worried about infection at this point than anything. We want it to settle down.

?Obviously it?s very painful. Anybody who?s ever had their nail removed, clawed off of your finger, it?s not a pretty sight. But in some ways it?s a blessing because usually the nail will hold the swelling. This allows the fluids I guess to drain and the swelling to drain out of there.?

Winger James van Riemsdyk took MacArthur?s place on the Leafs top line at practice, alongside Phil Kessel and Tyler Bozak.

?Obviously it?s exciting,? van Riemsdyk said about the opportunity to play on the top unit. ?I think we have a lot of great players in this room. You kind of have a role to play on different lines, they?re all very important. And this is a good chance to obviously play some more minutes. I?m just going to have to role with the opportunity.?

Looks like MacArthur is going to miss a game

Why wouldn't he move Kadri to the wing on the second line, move McLement to the third line between Frattin and Komarov, and then put Steckel on the fourth line?

They are trying to get Kadri comfortable at centre and provide at least some consistency in his linemates.  Bumping him around to the wing isn't going to help.

Per the Leafs facebook page:
The Leafs had Clarke MacArthur and Mike Komisarek back at practice Wednesday but were without Mike Brown and Colton Orr

Brown was probably injured in his fight with Weber, not sure what happened to Orr?

Yep. Heard the same.

Reports say Gunnarsson is nursing a groin injury; he was to undergo tests on Sunday.

The Leafs would only call the problem a lower body injury, but did say Gunnarsson has been fighting it since training camp.

Carlyle said injured winger Clarke MacArthur (finger) is ?closer? to playing while Mike Brown, who has shaved his famous handlebar moustache, has been cleared for practice after missing a week with a shoulder injury.

Don't know what they'll do when Brown comes back (presumably after MacArthur). Hard to see them carrying 3 enforcer types (though Brown is a middle weight who can play a little).

Some updates on the injuries, sounds like all 3 could be back within 2 weeks.

Injury update: According to Nonis, Frattin knee procedure was successful. Probably 10 days or so from return.

According to general manager Dave Nonis, goaltender James Reimer will participate in a light workout on the ice Tuesday or Wednesday.

Injury update: As part of ongoing recovery from fractured forearm, Joffrey Lupul now back skating as well. Likely couple weeks till return.

Very good news. I really want to see Lupul back in this lineup again. Having him and Frattin back up front should augment the line combos, and should help Kessel get back on track.
