Game 2: Sabres at Leafs - Sportsnet 7:00 PM

What a crazy finish. You can't feel bad for this game though, I still think the Leafs were the better team in this game.

Hard to really fault much.  A few mistakes, Buffalo capitalized on two.  Never really ok with a loss, but this was a decent one as far as they go.

Nobody disagrees with that. By the same token, if you pop a star player, you get popped yourself.

So you've repeated. Again, I do not think that carries if the star player behaves in a matter that makes him getting hit a natural course of his own actions.

The usual suspects brought it -- Kessel, Lupul, Phaneuf. Kostka and Kadri played well.

If I didn't hear his name I would have forgotten JvR was on the team. Subpar the first two games. Will need a few games to mesh.

Grabovski and Kulemin I thought had poor games.

They played a decent game. Miller stole it. They still need to get more traffic in front of the better goalies. Kostka solid again. He seems pretty calm, cool and collected out there, especially for a guy just starting out in the NHL. Doesn't look nervous. Probably his age and playing experience make a difference.

Ok.

1.5 GA/G is good but 1.5 GF/G is not going to cut it

Arrrgh

That's some sample size you got there  :P

Kessel on pace for 0 goals
Lupul on pace for 0 points

;)

Small sample size or not they need to get going

Price and Miller, just about as tough as they get, except for maybe Lundquivst. I'm not worried about the scoring, it will come around as they get their timing. They just have to stay solid defensively.

Tough game to lose but one that I think has become familiar of late. The Leafs had a very good chance to win that game but couldn't execute on an extended 5 on 3 and ultimately lost because the other team got better goaltending.

Meet the new boss...

I think it comes down to the 5 on 3.  That is a golden chance to move the puck around, screen the goalie and get quality chances that are hard or impossible to save.  Instead Miller got visibility on long shots.

More intangibly it just seems like Miller grew and the players lost confidence after that.  Shooting into the pads and missing the net.

If we didn't have the long 5 on 3 I might agree we were powerless to take this game from Miller.

Agreed they have to buried those 5-3s, but do you really expect Scrivens with just a handful of NHL games under his belt to out-goaltend Miller? Scrivens was okay. He would probably like to have Pomineville goal back.
