Honestly, I am not trying to rain on the parade but this is why JVR is so frustrating. He will have a monster game after being MIA for the previous 3-4 games.

He's one behind the league lead in goals.

I understand that. That doesn't mean he played well the last 3 games. I'm not criticising him, merely commenting how frustrating he can be. No different than a lot of highly touted prospects on other teams.

Only got home in time for the last half of the game, but that was a nice, disciplined looking win.  Nice to see some of that passing coming through.  And it's always great to win one despite of letting in the first goal.

I know "division" wins mean a little less in the abbreviated season because most games "matter" this year but it is nice to see the Leafs winning these games.

5-2-0 against the NorthEast  (1-OT win against Buffalo)
2-2-0 against the Atlantic
4-3-0 against the SouthEast

It's also 3 wins in a row at home

Just checked the standings, and I can't believe Montreal is still racking up points. Blows my mind after seeing their two performances against Toronto.

Galchenyuk has stepped in and performed well as a rookie.  And having a healthy Andrei Markov is an understated improvement to their roster.

Just got home and was checking the stats for the first and noticed that Phaneuf had the least amount ice time of any leaf D-man. Just coincidence or was he hurt for a few shifts?

He ended up leading the team in ice time at 23:49.

Franson with assists on both PP goals, tied for 7th in D-men points with 11, and tied for 4th overall in plus/minus with +11.

I've always liked his offensive game and now that Carlyle has tightened up the defensive parts he is looking like a pretty valuable player 5 on 5 and on the PP.  Only downside is that he is going to want a big raise from 1.2M if he keeps this up; good problem to have I guess.

could this team become somewhat for real with the addition of frattin and lupul?  i thought they played some pretty good hockey against an interested opponent...it felt like the kind of game that would have slipped through their hands in past years...i don't know if that's true or not..

Solid win. I wonder if Scrivens is close to stealing the starting job.

As well as Scrivens has played, I have definitely felt more confident with Reimer in goal this season. Maybe that's just me, I don't know. At the very least though, Scrivens has proven he's 100 per cent worthy of the back-up role, which was certainly a question coming into the season.

That's an extremely weak lineup. Vanek, Pominville and Miller are the only reasons they've won as many games as they have.

Two excellent forwards and an all-star goalie? Yeah, probably...

Yeah but they clearly can't do it all. They have no depth. Even if miller keeps them in it if Pominville or Vanek don't score its game over. Their record indicates this and last nights game practically proved it.

The penalty kill is now up to 15th.  They have improved tremendously in that area.

82.3% vs. 77.3% last year.  Definitely better.  That's good enough for middle of the pack if they can keep that sort of percentage up, and that's fine. (82.1% was good for 15th last year)

Yup! This guy has been awesome. You have to respect a guy that comes out and admits he stunk and voes to improve his play this season, because he says he's got something to prove... and then he does it in big fashion.

Without a trade or a substantial injury, I don't think we are going to see Gardiner back this short season. Just a hunch.
