Armchair GM Thread 2022-2023

Part of me jonesing for some early 00's nostalgia wants the Leafs to acquire both McCabe and Domi from Chicago. :D

That's hilarious, I was thinking that ame thing last night.  I was even justifying it weakly with "well the last time the Leafs got a McCabe from Chicago it turned out okay."

Nick Seeler from Philadelphia is someone the Leafs should definitely target at the deadline. Signed for another season at $775k.

Exactly 2 weeks until we know what the team looks like going into the playoffs.  I for one will be glad all the rumours are behind us after that, always the same song and dance every year with names thrown around, "Leafs interest" by the insiders and crazy asking prices.

I don't think 2-2nd round picks will be a crazy asking price for Patrick Kane. :)

Asking prices floated by insiders in the days and weeks leading up to the deadline are always high. They tend to come down once the actual market for a player reveals itself - and, especially, as that market starts to shrink as teams drop out of it. Don't get too hung up on what the supposed ask is.

Ok, I'm giving up my dreams of Patty Kane on the Leafs.

What about Sandin + Knies for Troy Terry?

37 goals last season. Carries a $1.45m cap hit this season and is an RFA at the end of the season.

His 19.3 shooting percentage last has come way back down to 8.9 this year.

So you're saying he's going to regress back to his 12.8 shooting percentage for his career? Sounds like a win for the Leafs.  😊

That's a lot to give up for an injured player with a limited track record.

Terry practiced Sunday and the Ducks expect him back soon. Also, this:

Yeah if we're dangling Sandin and Knies I'd have my sights set on something either a little high than Terry or somebody like Terry but signed to a pretty affordable deal for the next 2-3 years.

Yeah, I wonder if a contract extension could be worked out or if the Leafs could even fit a Troy Terry under the cap going forward.

Erik Karlsson 75% retained.

Karlsson isn't what this team needs. We need a Muzzin.

What if it was all a ruse and Muzzin is on LTIR like Kucherov and when the playoffs start KABOOM you got a Muzzin - Karlsson pairing!?  Huh big guy?

I'm hoping he can play and maybe he can. It would be great. We know he's def out until then.

This is a fun read if only for the way Jack breaks down hockey into mini-games. And you can see which mini-games the Leafs front office has focused on bolstering around the core.

I'd move Knies as part of a package for Chykrun.

They need to push a lot of leafs D down a spot long term, as opposed to getting bottom pairing depth, and I know I'm in the minority, but a Knies strikes me as being ridiculously overrated. A point a game in college hockey doesn't wow me much, yet there's people that think he can step into the leafs top-6 somehow.
