At this point, what are your expectations of Schenn in his prime?

#1 draft choice???  Needs to improve his skating???(You don't improve your skating at this level, you better have had that skill before you got to the show).

Better tell John Tavares that.

Exactly, Schenn has improved his offensive numbers every year so far too.

Shouldn't be surprised here though.

But sorry to say with his salary what it is and being no better than a 5 or 6th defensiveman, highly unlikely he is going anywhere.

Perhaps he should work on his scoring percentage? :P Many players have improved their skating at the NHL level - especially guys who broke into the league as teenagers. A lot of it really just comes down to proper training and conditioning.

And he is going to get the proper training with the Leafs?  A team that hasn't made the playoffs in 8 years!!!  And conditioning, that is mostly self driven, the awful start he got shows he wasn't very motivated to do that.  You can put lipstick on it but it still doesn't look pretty.

Tell that to the lazy Steven Stamkos.

It is ingrained in the culture of the organization to ruin young and promising defencmen.  He will do well somewhere else.

Pat Burns would of loved Schenn.  Heck he would probably of loved the entire team.  Tight checking, use speed to capitalize on the opponent's mistakes.  *Why is the solution to everything seem to be firing Wilson?*

Don't worry, by November next year it'll be 'fire Carlyle' with a whole new melody.

I would be happy if he settled into a steady top 4 spot on the roster. obviously not quite there yet, considering he is a #5/6/7 dman on a defensively deficient team.

I think if scouts watch the leafs they won't care much for having schenn be a key piece of a package for a star. We'll find out in t.o if he settles his game and becomes something of a force.

Pat Burns teams played D very well, it's a huge difference from Wilson.

Pat Burns had the benefit of having Gilmour, Clark & Andreychuk upfront so he could get away with making the team play more conservative defensively. Wilson doesnt have the luxury of three top line forwards so he uses the defence to help maintain pressure on the opposition. The disturbing thing is the Leafs still have moments where they have trouble even getting sustained pressure & creating offense in a system thats all run & gun.

Burke needs to improve the attack considerably so the coaching staff can do the same as Burns did. If you tighten the clamp defensively, this team would rank in the bottom 5 of offense.

My expectation is that Luke will be spending the prime of his career in another uniform...perhaps starting as early as next Monday.

That may very well happen.  It will be yet another example of a draft choice not sticking around with the team for foreseeable future.

I personally would like to see Schenn remain a Leaf.  Still believe he will improve over time.  Not expecting him to become a great point man, just a very good, hard-hitting dependable d-man.

Can that come to fruition in full?  Eventually, yes.  With the Leafs?  It's anyone's guess now.
