I can't help but feel underwhelmed. Not by the return but the fact that the season is on the line and Burke trades a depth defenseman for a depth forward.

Burke is thinking long-term, something he's been pretty clear about for a while now.
So trade guys like Grabovski then right? Pick a direction. Don't stand by and watch the ship sink.

This is a straight hockey deal.  Leafs have additional defenceman and give up a young developing one for a young developing power forward.  Time will truly tell on this one.  It seems worth the risk seeing that we are undersized up front and everyone (I included) have been complaining about puck recovery and net traffic in the offensive zone.

OR, you know, re-sign Grabovski, which is clearly his intent. I mean, it's not like we're talking about a guy in his mid-late 30s here, Grabovski is 27.

Dreger reported that they have made progress on an extension and they think they can get it done before July 1, so why would you sell him?

I'm somewhat encouraged by Burke's comments on Grabovski today.  I want him resigned for the right cap number.

Certainly the Leafs have assets to ship out for the future right? Think long-term, move assets for the long-term. Burke's been paralyzed for months, coasting off the success of a good start.

And I'm not panicking - though I do stand to lose a couple bucks should the Leafs miss the playoffs - or overreacting. It's just sad to watch a mediocre team flounder without management making any moves, apart from sending guys down to the marlies and bringing guys up.

Yeah, but, long-term doesn't just mean 5 years from now. It includes next year, 3 years from now, etc. Grabovski can still be a very valuable piece throughout that stretch - and, likely, more valuable than what the team would receive in return for trading him.

"#Leafs now have 7 first-round picks from the past 4 drafts: Schenn, Colborne, Gardiner (2008), Kadri, Ashton (2009), Biggs, Percy (2011)."

And yet there are still fans saying Burke isnt doing enough to stock the cupboards with good prospects.

decent deal, should be interesting to follow Ashton..any word on whether he'll be sent to the Marlies or not?

I've heard non-Leafs management/coaches speak very well of Holzer.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but the operative term in that statement is "good".  The Leafs at some point will need "elite" prospects/players.

I don't have a huge problem with this deal but I'll say again: our defense is our weakest link, and Aulie looked pretty good in his callups.  So they'd better be right on Holzer and Blacker.

I had high hopes for him, but to be honest, last season he looked really good, this year he was average at best.
