Auston Matthews

Hopefully Leafs are being extra cautious with Matthews.  They've won 3 straight without him so all is well and now they have a break until Thursday.  Let's get these sport science guys to earn their money and have Auston back at 100%

Yeah I have to say I'm completely shocked.  Matthews was pretty much carrying the team throughout the start of the season.  Some guys really stepped up with Matthews out.

The Leafs are showing they are a very good team.

I'm curious to see what they are going to do with Soshnikov.  He's got to be better than some of the defensemen we have been using.  Hopefully the Leafs find a way to keep him.  I have a feeling that he's in the AHL right now due to asset management.  We may see a minor trade or two this week.

Soshnikov is not a defenseman, but your point taken, he's better than Moore or Martin (or Leivo IMO) and too good to just let bolt to the KHL so they have to figure out something with him in the next 2 days or so.

It's really not a difficult problem to fix. Send down the Goat (who isn't going to play anyway) and call-up Soshnikov.

A part of me thinks that Gauthier (and Kapanen earlier) got the call-ups before Soshnikov did so they could collect some NHL salaries instead of their two-way AHL deals for a little bit before they called up Soshnikov full-time and filled up the roster.

I'm wondering if when Matthews comes back if Babcock can put him on a line with Marner and Marleau.  I'm genuinely curious to see what would happen.  Marleau and Marner have played extremely well together.  Plus it would let Nylander face some easier opposition and get out of his funk, hopefully.

Please, Jim Hughson, please stop calling Komarov "the Russian heat-seeking missile".

I'm guessing its because he was born in Estonia and represents Finland internationally?  Because, a heat-seeking missile is pretty apt.  (59 hits, 4th in the league)

I'm not an expert in these things but a missile doesn't hit a lot of things, a missile hits one thing with a great deal of force. So it seems to me that the equivalent would be the hardest hitter, not the most frequent one.

Of course it may be an objection to the inherent silliness of military metaphors.

I dislike Hughson, his call of the Kapanen OT goal against Washington in the playoffs last year was a disgrace.

I know he is a big Canucks fan, but you think he'd be professional enough to muster some enthusiasm when working Leafs games.

Every save Rask made on Saturday was "BIG SAVE RASK" and McBackup barely got a mention by comparison, despite significantly outplaying Rask.

I'm sick of watching Leafs games and having the call of the game focus on the opposition, I understand the need for impartiality, but they go to far the other way and we are the only fan base that is subjected to this.

The home feed of every other team consistently pump the tires of the home team and while I don't want just propaganda, they need to reassess the balance when it comes to broadcasting Leafs games.

Someone like Joe Bowen with the call and a more measured voice like Ray Ferraro or Mike Johnson providing the color would be a great option.

Overall I much prefer TSN broadcasts to Sportsnet/HNIC.

Well played, sir.

That was funny.

Me, I like Hughson just fine.  Bowen is awful.  But there you have it, there's no accounting for taste.  Or tastelessness.  Or figuring out who has which.

Did Joe Bowen ask you to pay for something once?

Ask Ottawa fans how they felt during the playoff series back in the early 2000's.  I don't think the Leafs are the only team that has been subjected to this.

Bowen is a little over-the-top at times, for sure. A little too much of a 'homer' for my liking. I'd like to see someone in between where he is and where Hughson is - someone that is definitely a Leafs fan and isn't afraid to show it, but also provides a rational and balanced perspective on things. Get the excitement in there while also being able to call out the Leafs for their mistakes/praise the other team for good plays/not blame the officials for missing penalties on plays that aren't penalties, etc.
