Black & Blue Leafs - Injury Report

I can see him not wearing it during a game, if it's bothersome or affects his game in any way, but he should be wearing the guard in practice IMO. I don't think he's an idiot, but he's gambling and this time he lost, let's just be hopeful that it's not going to make him miss any time. Why gamble in practice, especially when you have guys like Phaneuf shooting in practice?

That's the thing: it isn't even gambling during practice because you have nothing at all to gain by not wearing it.  It's just taking a needless risk.

I guess they'll have to ask Kulemin and Lupul why they didn't wear it.

should be completely mandatory. And if they cant make it manditory then the person (Lupul) or anyone else this stupid misses game time then they should be fined for time missed? It the only thing that will get through to these numbskulls?$$$$$ pain

good point, should right it into the contracts they sign then..Hey its your privilege not to wear them but game time is the payday, U miss some games, U pay

While that's also true, we're talking about practice, not a game situation.

Sure, but they scrimmage in practice which has led to guys getting hurt in practice so I don't know how much that lessens the risk.

I love Lupul and his ability as much as any Leaf fan, but right now I am more than pissed at him for his cavalier attitude about what he should do or not do in practice. I say if wearing this protection was recommended he should give up his pay while he is out. It is the right thing to do.  I actually feel if he played against the Jackets last night that we may have just won that game or at least gone into overtime.

mirtle: Carlyle says no break for Lupul. Bozak is out a little while. Had an MRI and is out at least a week to 10 days.

mirtle: Leafs have placed Tyler Bozak on injured reserve. Don't expect him on Western Canada trip. Carlyle made it sound like he may be out a while.

I wonder if maybe this is something that has been an issue for Bozak most of the season and the hit on Friday just put it past the manageable stage. It could certainly help to explain why he's suddenly forgotten how to win faceoffs.

I was wondering that also, as I made a comment in the GDT that he hasn't been his normal self since the season began IMO.

A good opportunity for Kadri.  Not good for the team.  Bozak might not be the best option for the 1st line, but it certainly hurts team depth.  If they get Lupul back on Tuesday though things might be ok.

It would be really nice to get Kulemin back though to help out defensively.  The top end guys are going to get tired if the Leafs keep taking penalties at the rate they have this year.

What is the issue exactly. Any word?

No details, but, based on the play that took him out of the game in Columbus, I'd guess something with his lower back.

Before you suggested that it may have been preexisting to the CBJ game and then became unmanageable.  That would indeed explain his decreased faceoff numbers.  If you have a bad lower back you REALLY aren't going to be able to do faceoffs well.

Or did he get hit in Columbus, and that caused it?

The hit that knocked him out of the game in Columbus didn't look like anything that would have caused an injury to an otherwise healthy player, so, my guess is the hit aggravated a pre-existing issue.
